Author Q&A! Micheal Willis discusses his most recent D&D Adventure module, The Village of Faen. Q. What was your introduction to Dungeons & Dragons? A. I first found DND in 2001. I had been curious about the game for some time, but when the LotR movies came out, I was super eager to give it a try. I wanted to be like the characters in that story. To go on endless adventures. Q. What was your process for writing The Village of Faen? A. It was actually based on a session I ran for my friends several years ago. Not all of our friends could make it, but we still wanted to play so I threw together a quick one shot for us to run. The session went over well, so I decided to expand it out to a full adventure for everyone to try. Q. What were your sources of inspiration when creating The Village of Faen? A. There were a few key sources I drew inspiration from. The first is an old NES RPG called Dragon Quest IV. The other is The Wickerman. I wanted to tell a spooky story set in a small isolated and superstitious community. Q. Can we expect any future follow ups to The Village of Faen? A. Yes! I am currently planning two sequels! Keep an eye out for them. Q. What is your favorite DND Monster: A. I love worgs. Very unrated beasts. Large, intelligent evil wolves. I'd love to work more with them in the future. While up a River for a whanau swim in Nelson I overheard two kids having a debrief after a session of popping manus (jumping) off the rocks. Rock Jumper 1 ‘So what are you the most proud of?’ Rock Jumper 2 ‘Ummm: the staples I did; cos I’d never been able to do them like that before.’ How good!!! Here's my drawing of the Spelljammer we used in our session. We used the core mechanics from the book, but everyone wanted a little bit of a twist on it, hence the previous pose about space whales, and this spelljammer design.
