Founder/CEO at 55Redefined Group, Public Speaker & Global Expert on how to unlock the value of our Ageing Population
Delighted to feature in todays The Times (link below) championing our amazing over 50s new entrepreneurs. A snippet from the article for the non-Times subscribers is: Lyndsey Simpson, 46, is the founder of 55/Redefined, which provides services for workers over 50. She said the current “dominant trigger” for over-50s to start companies was their lack of job opportunities, or frustration at lack of “progression, fulfilment or flexibility in a current role”. She added: “The great news is that 50-year-old founders are almost twice as likely to build a thriving enterprise when starting a firm than their 30-year-old counterparts… They’ve built up the wisdom, experience, skills and networks to deal with the highs and lows of setting up a business.” Head over to https://life-redefined.co to become a member for free for more life inspiration and ideas for how to redefine this next stage of life on your terms. #entrepreneurs
There is a growing cohort of people starting companies for the first time after turning 50, often as an alternative to retiring. Enterprise Nation’s most recent figures shows 43% of businesses are started or run by people over 50, up from 35% in mid-2023. Why should all founders plan an exit strategy from the onset?👀 Based on research within our partner network, 90% of founders want to make an exit in the five to 10 years from their company creation. But UK statistics show that approximately only 2% of businesses manage an exit in that time. A great thanks to Startups Magazine for allowing me to cover in their last publication this crucial topic of the exit. So far founders and investors could avoid talking seriously about exits, hoping it would miraculously happen without too much thoughts, but since the VC meltdown, things have changed and a serious exit strategy is required from the onset of the business. Planning the exit, even if you do not intend to do one, at least in the near horizon, is extremely structuring so no business should shy away from fully integrating it in their strategy, and that is like supporting a tree so it grows straight, the sooner the better. That is what I discuss in the article. Any question or even support on this do not hesitate to get in touch.
