Zeus ZeroGraze Farm Training Unit. This project was fast tracked in 2020 due to the needs of the communuty and Le Cheile's push to get that step closer to self sustainability brought on by the restrictions imposed the world over on our abalility to fundraise etc . One of our successful stories of the last 2 years the support in getting this project up and running initially getting cows sponsored support has been amazing moving on to this year to a new specially cow unit being built Sponsored by Zeus Currently the Zero Graze Farm is trialing growing Maize in dry season along with beans via irrigation etc on the feasibility of it being viable to implement in our community training results todate are extremely positive. Once plants more established we might add melons/ squash ie Companion plantings Breans add nitrogen for maize ..Maize a ready made support for Beans and melons/ Squash ground cover ie no weeding . All are suitable to be used as fodder for livestock or to grow to full and sell in local markets .. By doing these trials we open the community minds to better use of there land all part of Zeus Training Farm ideology in education by showing how's it done practically not just in theory . Also You will see our Nappier and Brakera grasses growing over 2 acres of this grass planted now this along with maize silage will help give our cows a stable diet Next up is to grow Sunflowers to aid this feeding process also these we have trailed on a small scale via Whistle Daycare site in the past so come April we will.plant Sunflowers by the permitter fence etc .. Skills Insight reviewing barriers to training in key industries Skills Insight is consulting with stakeholders as part of a project to better understand the barriers registered training organisations (RTOs) face in delivering particular qualifications, and the issues learners and employers face in accessing formal training. Eleven industry areas have been identified for qualitative research. They include arboriculture, aquaculture, fisheries compliance, fishing operations, protected and production horticulture, irrigation, landscaping, nursery operations, permaculture, pest management, and seafood post-harvest operations. There is the opportunity to participate via online and on-site interviews and focus groups. Input will be used to produce a research paper outlining the barriers to meeting training demand and strategies to address them. So why are young people not really farming, you may ask. Now in rural areas, young people are mostly landless, marginally employed, and suffer from poor working conditions and exploitation. And sadly, the region’s economies have been unable to absorb these energetic and creative young workers. As a result, young people are abandoning agriculture and rural areas in search of better lives in cities or abroad. At Shield Africa, one of our goals is to make agriculture a viable option for this young population and that is what we are doing with our current farming projects. We have done this by training these young people on modern agricultural best practices and employing them to carry out different roles at designated farming projects within their localities. Register for our upcoming Learning Series where we'll be talking about youth involvement in agriculture as well as shedding more light on our ongoing projects. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eUW5H-Nb

Delivering and accessing formal VET training can be a challenge in many industry areas or regions. Registered training organisations (RTOs) need to consider the costs and risks of delivering each qualification they offer. Similarly, learners and employers experience barriers to engaging in formal training. Consultation is taking place throughout this project to understand the factors complicating demand, delivery and uptake of VET training. Eleven industry areas have been identified for qualitative research: ➡️ arboriculture ➡️ protected and production horticulture ➡️ irrigation ➡️ landscaping ➡️ nursery operations ➡️ permaculture ➡️ pest management ➡️ aquaculture ➡️ fishing operations ➡️ seafood post-harvest operations ➡️ fisheries compliance. You have the opportunity to participate and share insights into the factors impacting your industry. There are three ways to have your say: 📞 Interviews where we’ll discuss the nuances impacting particular industry areas or regions 🚗 Site visits to enterprises or training providers experiencing delivery or uptake challenges 🙋♀️ Focus groups to be held around the country from June to September, where industry can discuss common challenges and experiences. International Biodiversity Day and international standard ISO 14001 On this day, every individual and organization (businesses, NPOs, municipalities, governments and others) must ask ourselves the question: What actions, within the framework of my abilities, can be taken to do my part in the protection of wildlife, plant and human biodiversity? Whether we like it or not, our own survival as well as the survival of many animal and plant species is linked to our WANT TO ACT COLLECTIVE. We know that humanity, through its ever-increasing proportion of occupation of land and sea space, has increasingly significant repercussions on our collective future and the very survival of the viability of our planet. Many small actions can be taken, such as allowing the different seasonal blooms to complement each other, not allowing clear-cutting in forestry areas, and reducing monocultures in agriculture. These are just a few examples of actions that can be taken. We need to think about the impacts that each of our developments has on the environment in general. A good way to set these objectives is to set up a method of regular management of our objectives within our organizations. The implementation of the international standard ISO 14001 allows an organization, regardless of its field or structure, to set achievable objectives according to its structure and to monitor them regularly through internal audits. We invite you to contact us to see, with you, how to put such a structure in place within your organization in order to maximize your favorable environmental impact within our society. As it is an international standard, we can support you regardless of where your organization is geographically located. Also consult our training dates by GOOGLE MEET accessible regardless of your geographical location. Transforming Lives: Technical Courses Empowering Youth from Pastoral Areas Youths from pastoral areas, traditionally dependent on livestock for their livelihood, are now embracing a new path of empowerment through technical education. This transformation is being spearheaded by the Ujuzi Manyattani initiative, launched by the Northern Rangeland Trust (NRT) five years ago. The program aims to provide technical skills that offer sustainable alternatives to livestock dependency, which is increasingly threatened by cattle rustling and prolonged droughts. The impact of the Ujuzi Manyattani initiative is tangible and profound. More than 1,300 morans (young warriors) and women from pastoral regions have already benefitted from courses in various technical fields including mechanical engineering, hairdressing, plumbing, barbering, tailoring, masonry, and electrical work. These skills are not only providing new income streams but are also reshaping the social fabric of these communities by reducing reliance on traditional livestock farming. Tom Lalampaa, the CEO of NRT, recently addressed a gathering in Doldol, Laikipia County, where approximately 200 youths celebrated their graduation from the technical courses offered by the initiative.
