I’ve had some interest as to why we chose the name 'better [blank]' for our new workplace wellbeing program. What if workplace wellbeing programs are missing the mark by focusing solely on...wellbeing? Traditional workplace wellbeing initiatives often attract those already committed to healthy living – the employees who least need our support. Workplace wellbeing programs are not just a nice to have they are actually good for business! The work wellbeing 100 made up of listed US companies who invest in employee wellness outperformed S&P 500, Russel 3000 and Nasdaq index over a 3 year horizon. When employees feel cared for they bring their best to work, increasing productivity and customer satisfaction and firm profitability. Conversely a Gallup survey shows that only 37% of employees are engaged at work and 17% are actively disengaged, costing the US economy $8.8 trillion per year! Here's a 5 step strategy to ensure your wellbeing programs translates to bottom line results: 1. Commit to a long term strategy- wellness is not a quick fix or box ticking exercise 2. Demonstrate genuine care and concern for the each individual, welcome feedback and suggestions 3. Take a practical and holistic approach, sharing the latest research findings is not enough, focus on how to make improvements through sustainable and achievable steps 4. Address topics that are most relevant such as stress management, dealing with uncertainty, fostering social connection at work, promoting a sense of firmwide purpose 5.
