👨💻 One adverse side effect of edtech: it can tether teachers to their computers or make them feel sidelined. 🏃♂️ That’s a problem because student-centered learning works best when teachers are free to move around the classroom, actively guiding students’ on their personal learning journeys. 🤹♀️ But that’s hard to do when they need to be at their computer, toggling between various apps across their numerous tasks. 📣 That’s why Merlyn Mind, an education AI company, built an AI tool that allows teachers to control their various digital tools with their voices.  🤖 I spoke recently with its Co-founder and CEO, Satya Nitta. I was fascinated to learn about the new possibilities opened up in classrooms by automating and voice-activating the once time- and energy-consuming juggling act of teaching in the digital age. Listen to the full conversation below and share the ways you want to see AI transform teaching in the comments below.

Tethered is right. I see lots of student teachers and current teachers who can’t move away from their desk Because of short cables etc. provlbably a decision by IT that made sense for IT with little teacher input. Thx for a solution - or even just pointing out the problem.

The best edtech tools facilitate relationships. Being proximal to students as they grapple, create, or question is integral to powerful teaching and learning. Merlyn Mind showed well at ISTE and is clearly doing great things. The team was fantastic and they highlighted how seamless the tools are. Excited to listen and learn more.

Highly insightful. I met someone from UNESCO who mentioned that often times, edtech today is trying to revolutionize learning while not evolving the process of learning itself. I wonder if this means that the role of the teacher needs to shift, or if, the technology is not sufficient. Also, loving this form of writing, Michael!

Excited to listen in! I'm inspired by Satya Nitta's vision to not only untether educators from screens so they do what they do best (engage and excited their students) but, also impressed by the underlying models Merlyn Mind has built to ensure AI is being applied responsibly in the classroom.
