🤔 Can heritage buildings achieve a 70% total energy reduction? An analysis of 6️⃣9️⃣ refurbished buildings proves that it is possible. 🔎 After collecting and documenting the buildings within two projects, Daniel Herrera, Franziska Haas, Gustaf Leijonhufvud and Alexandra Troi from the FuturHist team analysed the best practices presented in the HiBERatlas (Historical Building Energy Retrofit Atlas) available 👉https://lnkd.in/dF5dTsbd They draw some interesting conclusions in the article published in the Journal “Heritage” at MDPI 👉 https://lnkd.in/da-ZQfxx The research not only demonstrates the significant energy reduction resulting from the various measures being implemented but also highlights the practical implications of these findings. For instance, the important role of Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery compared to buildings without MVHR or the positive effect of solar energy is evident in the case of PV. What else is essential to making the retrofit project successful? 📌 Teamwork, cooperation and involving the heritage authorities in the earliest stages of the project are invaluable 🤝 As the authors conclude: ✏"Complex projects require an ambitious planning team and an open-minded client, as well as a continuous process of coordination between planners and heritage authorities. Informal cooperation with heritage authorities in the early stage pays back later in the project and ensures a close cooperation within the planning team and with the users is essential for the success of complex projects".
