As I work to aid Charitable children institutions in transitioning towards family and community care, I often come across organizations dealing with children aging out of the care system. These children often lack independent living skills and encounter numerous obstacles, sometimes without supportive community networks. It's disheartening that they have to leave the system without the support and love of a family. Facilitating the search for suitable families for these children is crucial in ensuring their continued growth and well-being beyond institutional care. #carereform #familycare

This is Jacqui, the Support Services Coordinator at Girikon's Client Organisation: Council of Single Mothers and Their Children (CSMC). Jacqui and her team provide single mothers with the specialist support and information that CSMC is known for. Now Jacqui is speaking out and asking for your help. CSMC's Support Line Workers say they have never had as much unmet demand as now, and the need has never been more acute. The need for support and information has always been high, but demand has skyrocketed due to the cost-of-living crisis. Single mothers who call CSMC's Support Line need help now, but the sheer volume of calls means that many are having to leave messages and wait for a callback. As a trial attorney, you learn to recite facts in a compelling manner. In doing so, you learn that truth is often stranger than fiction. So let me tell you a story... I left my decade-long career as a prosecutor to join The National Child Protection Task Force full-time in 2021. I had no apprehension. It was a leap of faith in a dedicated group of individuals who were focused on saving #justonemore child from exploitation. However, I had one regret: not being able to directly support my community the way I did as an ADA. I missed that direct impact I was able to give survivors and their families. Then I received an email earlier this year from an officer we trained in New York. That officer was thanking us. He told us about a young girl who went missing - presumably a runaway - in his jurisdiction. However, based on our training he knew something didn't add up. Utilizing techniques NCPTF taught him, they located the girl with a man twice her age who had groomed her via a video game platform. Between our training and their ceaseless work, they were able to recover the girl in 24 hours even though the defendant took her out of state. The defendant brought her to my home county in Pennsylvania. He's being prosecuted by my former office. NCPTF strives to serve all law enforcement and strengthen their ability to recover missing and exploited children. The more we are able to train officers, to assist them in their times of need, the wider the our impact. It's the butterfly effect in action.
