Here are three key points that caught my eye: 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 l𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘅 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵: In 2023, Europe constituted more than half (58%!!) of global food-x climate tech funding, surpassing the US for the first time. 🌍💪 Tells a lot about priorities 😉 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: European climate food startups attracted $2B in 2023, matching the previous year's record high. This resilience is remarkable despite the economic slowdown. 📈✨ 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: Food-x climate tech was the best-performing sector in Europe, only behind energy. In order to achieve the full potential of the alternative protein industry, we need more collaboration between stakeholders across the sector, including investors, start-ups, governments, incumbent food companies, and NGOs, to accelerate the next phase of the technological and commercial progress. Synthesis's Shivani Oberoi, CFA participated in a panel discussion this week at the Innovation Zero conference in London, alongside a wide range of stakeholders from the sector including Jo Raven (FAIRR Initiative), Linus Pardoe (The Good Food Institute), and Duncan Williamson (Forum for the Future), moderated by Simon Davis (Anthesis Group). We are just one month away from Thrive Global Summit 2024, one of my favorite AgTech conferences, which takes place in Santa Clara, CA on Thursday, November 7th. 🌍 Excited to share that I've recently had the opportunity to join the The Sustainability Mafia :Climate Ninjas Cohort! The sessions so far have been incredibly informative and interactive, providing valuable insights into sustainability practices. Each session lead by dynamic and visionary entrepreneur has provided fresh perspective and actionable insight into the world of sustainability and climate action. In my first session, Sudhir Kumar Pasupuleti, the visionary founder of Algrow Biosciences shared how #microalgae could revolutionize our food systems with sustainable, nutritious protein sources. We delved into the science behind algae-based proteins and explored the exciting business potential of this innovative market. 🌍💡 We continued our journey with the next masterclass, featuring Swapnil Shrivastav, the CEO and co-founder of Uravu Labs who shared invaluable insights with us. The session explored cutting edge technology for extracting water from air, offering a sustainable solution to water scarcity. This innovation reduces reliance on strained resources, turning science fiction into a practical reality for water security. In our next masterclass, we had the privilege of hearing from Tannya Garg of FarMart on the rapidly evolving #ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sector. She highlighted how ESG principles are driving responsible growth, improving corporate accountability, and transforming the business landscape by enhancing transparency and stakeholder trust. A special highlight was the recent session led by Hari Prasad from Beyos | Beyond Sustainability. He broke down the complexities of calculating a business's #carbon_footprint in such a simple and relatable way that even a layman could grasp it. Truly eye-opening!
