More than a merger 🤝 Business combination is one of the primary mechanisms in today’s market, increasingly recognised as an effective response to current and future business challenges. But this is only a fragment of the extensive subject of #integration. A well-prepared and effectively executed M&A transaction is just the beginning. To put it straight, the real fun begins a while later, when it becomes imperative to blend and unite diverse organisations into a cohesive and efficient entity – encompassing disparate processes, structures or cultures. This stage, known as Post Merger Integration (PMI), represents one of the most significant summits that every leader tasked with transformation processes must conquer in their career. During my career, have faced such summits several times – with the integration of #Unipetrol, #Energa #Lotos, and finally #PGNiG with #ORLEN. The crucial lessons I have gleaned from these projects❓ ➡️Well-identified synergies are the key to success – ORLEN’s comprehensive #PMI programme provides for the implementation of more than 160 integration and transformation projects in all of the company’s business segments. The estimated amount of synergies by 2032 exceeds PLN 20 billion. In the merger of PGNiG, LOTOS, and ORLEN, the most tangible and rapid benefits stemmed from integrating #upstream segment in foreign markets, particularly in Norway, where previously each company (PGNiG and LOTOS) maintained separate asset portfolios and had diverse and complementary competencies. ➡️Proceed without veering from the chosen path – merging businesses is not a decision made lightly; it is a project with results spanning years or even decades. Regardless of the scale of operations, it is essential to consider the strategic goals the combined entity is to achieve in the future. ➡️People are consistently the focal point – integration processes always evoke a range of emotions among employees. A dispirited and directionless team has the potential to undermine even the most meticulously planned PMI efforts. Engaging in direct dialogue, allocating time, and being open to addressing challenging questions – open communication – is the best approach to encourage employees to align with the process and recognise their personal benefits amid the challenging changes they face. The growing role of integration is leading professionals to increasingly contemplate improvement methods for PMI processes. I am looking most closely at two trends that I would like to recommend for you to explore as well: ✔️Using artificial intelligence #AI to more effectively identify potential risks and plan for post-merger integration: tiny.pl/cz2wv ✔️Integrating #ESG, which hold a special place in my heart, into M&A processes: tiny.pl/cz2wd These topics confirm that today the most valuable asset of an effective manager lies in their openness to new approaches and trends and, more importantly, in the ability to be flexible and empathetic in their daily work.
