Born to be alive 🎶🎶🎶 As I celebrate another year of life today, I find myself reflecting not just on the challenges of living with a renal failure, but on the profound lessons it has taught me—lessons that I believe carry immense value, not just in the personal realm but within our professional lives as well. Living with a condition that prompts me to view each day as potentially my last has transformed my approach to life and work in ways I could never have anticipated. It has taught me the power of resilience, the importance of passion, and the value of embracing every moment with purpose and gratitude. Here are a few insights I've gained: The Power of Now: My condition has taught me to live in the present. In a world where we often postpone our happiness in pursuit of future goals, I've learned the importance of finding joy in the present moment. This approach has not only enriched my personal life but has significantly enhanced my productivity and creativity at work. Resilience: Facing daily challenges has fortified my resilience. Today, as I celebrate another year of life, I find myself reflecting on the profound journey of the past year. I never saw this coming… It was a big deal I hadn’t planned on diving into so soon. Guess what? I got invited to a bunch of speaking gigs, all in just one month, talking about a busy past month. Prior to this, as I geared up for the year, I reflected on my actions and realized I hadn't been delivering much value due to my demanding work schedule, a convenient excuse every time. I was determined to change this, I took a moment to structure my activities for the year, making room for delivering value to those around me and across my channels. I was prepared to be intentionally focused, even if it meant making sacrifices. I declared this as my year to deliver value and immediately took aggressive actions just a few days into the year, even before returning to work from the holidays. All the pushing and action started during my holiday, and I'm pleased to share that hard work resulted in significant success. Since then, I've been receiving various speaking engagements across my channels, all stemming from delivering value to others. The fulfillment I experience from providing value far surpasses the monetary compensation. To sum it up, I would say providing value and positively affecting lives with even the smallest amount of knowledge goes much further than you might anticipate. It creates a lasting impact and brings about positive transformations. Align yourself with this approach this year, to consistent deliver value and assist others in reaching their success. I never made a one-year anniversary post about my first job after college, and there’s a reason why. As I navigated starting my career, I also watched my parents finalize their divorce. I’ll keep the personal details off of LinkedIn, but here’s what the last year has taught me in work and beyond: • Empathy Matters: You never know what others are going through outside of work. A little kindness goes a long way. • Work as a Constant: On tough days, work may be the only constant. Sometimes, that consistency is a welcome anchor. • Embracing Change: Life and work can both present challenges. Whatever you do, adapt, pivot when necessary, and keep moving forward. So no, I never posted celebrating my one-year. I didn’t highlight achievements throughout the year, and I didn’t network with every person I met. I focused on myself, and I’d like to think I’m better for it. With that, here’s to year two and all that comes with it—hopefully, a little bit better than the last.

“Wow, you really stepped out of your comfort zone!” – said by a former colleague I hadn’t seen in 18-months. It didn’t seem so scary when I said ‘yes!’ to the new job a year ago, but once I was in it, it was really, really hard. The work was exciting, and the team was filled with smart, talented, fun-to-work-with-people. So, why was it so hard? For the first time in a long time, I didn’t know the answers right away, or which contributions would add value in meetings, or even who to call when I needed to phone a friend for help. I call these times in my career “seasons” – those growth periods that bring big change as well as improvements month-over-month until one day – you know who to call for help and/or past expertise collides with new expertise in a way that you can take the work to the NEXT LEVEL. 🚀 Today I'm celebrating my 1-year anniversary (🍾) and sharing a few personal lessons from this season. 💫 Invest in your network – regardless of where you are in your career, these authentic connections will carry you through. 💫 Learn when it’s time to say ‘yes’ to your next role – to know me, is to know that I LOVED my previous role, but the reality is, I should have stepped out of my comfort zone sooner. 💫 Recognize that the journey will take time – much like the hike in the photo, the path out of the canyon had a lot of ups and downs, switchbacks, and rocky terrain. 🫠 Breaking the climb down into manageable distances, assessing the terrain in the next section, and taking rest breaks led to the overall goal.
