In the last month me and my colleague Chenghao have participated this hackathon organised by Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato Italiano and Codemotion, where the main focus is to address a significant and challenging issue: finding innovative solutions to combat counterfeiting of Made in Italy products. We decided to call our team and solution “MII Guardian”, a paronomastic way to express both “the guardian of Made In Italy” and “ME as the guardian” protecting it. Our proposed solution is horizontal and applicable to any types of products. It involves: - AI and computer vision techniques to analyse images taken by an end user and get compared with image references defined by the manufacturer - Blockchain technology ensures product traceability, and once information is recorded, it becomes immutable, safeguarding the product’s history - Microservices architecture enables scalability and seamless integration with third parties through APIs - Gamification and rewarding system where all the parties involved get benefits. This creates a social network that aims to fight the counterfeits - other aspects like utilizing GS1 Digital Links, accessible macro lenses for greater image details, intuitive and responsive UI for the users, dashboards for brand monitoring and anomaly detections. The time was limited and we were working in those endless nights and during weekends. We were simultaneously brainstorming innovative ideas and fixing bugs for the prototype. We competed against 30 other teams, and we have been selected to be in the top 3. Today, we participated in the final event at Rome to discover the winner. A lot of knowledge and work have been put into our solution making it unique and effective. Yet, this wasn’t enough to win the challenge. So big congratulations to team CheckMate for winning the competition. I also want to thank Giuseppe, Eros, and other specialists for being great mentors and for providing us with valuable information. What else can I say? What a journey. We learned a lot, met new great people, had a great time and I am sure that all of these will make me a better version of myself and get prepared for the next challenge! :)
