Team Tuesday & Employee Spotlight! Today's spotlight is on Leland Schell who works for our McClay's Transportation asset division as an Accounting 💲 💰 data entry clerk. Leland helps our accounts payables and accounts receivables by collecting data 📈 📉 , inputting new information into our databases, and reviewing records for accuracy. Q: How Long have you worked at McClay's Transportation: A: 1 enjoyable month. I came on board as a co-op 👨🎓 , and it has now turned into a co-op + a part time job 🙋♂️ . Q: What do you enjoy most about working at McClay's: A: I love hearing the office banter between Ben and Dale...What I don't enjoy, is the amount of Old Spice cologne that Ben McMahon wears to the office each day (shots fired). It's over the top... Q: What are some of your interests outside of work: A: In my down time I enjoy weightlifting 🏋♂️ and body building 👊 , Playing video games 🕹 with friends, and snowboarding 🛷 on a clear and crisp winter's 🏔 day. Q: What kind of music 🎵 do you sing in the car to and from work: A: My favourite is NF - American Rapper & Singer. I'm pretty much a NF back-up singer 🎤 when cruising in my car 🚓 ... Q: Anything else to add Leland: A: A lot of people don't know this about me, but when I was much younger, I shot myself in the hand with a nail gun. It wasn't quite as bad as Mr. Larson in Happy Gilmore, but it is part of the reason why I have decided not go into carpentry ⚒ for a career path (Good Call Leland!). I have yet to see a nail gun in the accounting 💲 department at McClay's which puts a smile on my face 😊 ... Thanks for telling us a little bit more about yourself Leland. We all agree that you have been a great new addition to the team. Your employees have brains and ideas also! #IanTheHRPro Speaking with clients, I find that employers don't seem to value the brains and ideas of paid employees. Why pay someone if you're not capitalizing on the added brain power? We hire people to do a job or set of tasks. Then we forget about them and we take on the assumption that they can't possibly know anything else or grow into different roles. What do you think of having a monthly or quarterly team meeting that includes all employees to brainstorm ideas? You must include the janitor, receptionist, file clerk, mail clerk, labourer, security, intern, and any employee you don't usually consider part of the "team."
