The Biden Administration’s guidelines requiring hourly matching starting in 2028 will limit the ability of the green hydrogen industry to get off the ground and reduce decarbonization efforts, according to a new study by Wood Mackenzie & commissioned by ACP. Wood Mackenzie’s analysis finds that ACP’s green hydrogen proposal, issued in June 2023, leads to significantly more green hydrogen deployment by 2032 and puts the industry closer to the pathway required to achieve a net-zero emissions economy. Moving toward the next important step for hydrogen fueling access in the Mid Atlantic.

The Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) has secured a significant cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to receive up to $925 million in federal funding. This funding aims to jumpstart the clean hydrogen economy in Appalachia, catalyzing billions in private investment and creating thousands of high-paying jobs across West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. By leveraging the region's rich resources, ARCH2 will establish a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors like manufacturing and transportation, with a commitment to ensuring that 40% of the program's benefits flow to disadvantaged communities. Supported by key partners such as Air Liquide, CNX Resources Corp., and Plug Power, this initiative represents a transformative step toward a clean, equitable energy future. There are many indicators pointing to green hydrogen as the key to reach the emissions targets; this article reinforces the feeling that it is an industry that is poised to grow, the numbers are quite important in fact.
