Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to make my first post here and share a bit about myself. My name is Alyssa Bryant, and I've taken a somewhat unconventional path to where I stand today, ready to dive into the world of product management. My career began in the healthcare sector, where I was immersed in environments that demanded both compassion and precision. Working closely with patients and healthcare professionals, I cultivated a deep understanding of the importance of empathy and the impact of effective solutions on individuals' lives. This experience has given me a unique lens through which I view product development—always with the end-user's needs and well-being at the forefront. The adventure continued as I moved halfway across the world to South Korea, spending two transformative years as an Elementary ESL Teacher, a role that sharpened my skills in communication, cultural awareness, and adaptability. These years were invaluable, teaching me the importance of clear messaging and the power of education, skills I believe are critical in product management. Now back home in the US, and embarking on an exciting journey into product management, I am driven by a passion for innovation, and the power of well-crafted products to solve real-world problems. My diverse background has equipped me with a unique perspective that I believe will add value in this new field. I'm eager to learn from the community here, contribute my insights, and share my career transition as a PM. Here's to new beginnings and the exciting journey ahead! 🌟 #CareerTransition #ProductManagement #HealthcareTech #UserCentricDesign #TechInnovation #LearningJourney #ProfessionalGrowth #EmpathyInTech #DiversityInTech #NewBeginnings

Product @ CIBC | Problem Solver & Innovator, Passionate about Transformative & Scalable Solutions in Technology
🚀 Embracing the Power of Problem-Centric Product Management 🚀 “Ink pens don’t work in zero gravity because the ink can’t flow. NASA spent $1M creating a space pen that works in zero gravity. The Russian space agency used a pencil” The above piece has been my biggest takeaway so far from the Co.Lab 🚀 joincolab.io Diverse Tech Talent Program. Through my journey in the Co lab Diverse Tech Talent Program (DTTP) Product Management cohort, one invaluable lesson has truly transformed my approach: the essence of problem-centric thinking. As aspiring product managers, it's easy to get caught up in the allure of our ingenious ideas and solutions. But, here's the revelation: more often than not, the seeds of the perfect solution are sown within the problem itself. 🌱 The key lies in asking the right open-ended questions, in gaining profound insights, and in identifying the pain points users face. It's about delving deep into the 'why' before you venture into the 'how.' This, my friends, is the cornerstone of crafting extraordinary products that truly make a difference. 🌟 So, let's make a pact to place our focus from the 'what' to the 'why.' Let's cultivate a culture of problem-solving, and in doing so, we'll unlock the potential to create remarkable, user-centric solutions. 💡 Remember, the journey to greatness begins with embracing the problem. 🌍💪 A huge thank you to Sefunmi Osinaike & Helen Huang 🥕 for providing an opportunity to be a part of this program #ProductManagement #Innovation #ProblemSolvers #DTTP #TechTalent #LinkedInInspiration

🚀 Launching a product is like launching a rocket, requires a great team. But what's a great team without Psychological Safety? It's like a rocket with no fuel. 🚀 In the volatile environment of a Product Team with complex stakeholder management and influencing without authority, Psychological Safety is not just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have. Without it, even the most well-structured frameworks and the most talented teams can crumble. That's why, here at Product Weekend, we're dedicated to nurturing teams to create safer spaces - spaces where new ideas and change can take root, grow and flourish. 🌱 The tricky part is going beyond the surface of psychological safety which can usually be reached with a team building or workshop, and create a culture around it. Otherwise, every time new people join and/or others leave the team, the fundament of psychological safety will have to be rebuilt. I’m curious though, what are the key aspects of a psychologically safe team in your view? Drop a comment below and let's start this critical conversation. 💭 #productmanagement #psychologicalsafety #productweekend #teamwork

Empower Product Managers At All Levels To Break In and Accelerate Their Product Management Career | Forbes | AI Product Manager Coach | Award-winning Director of Product | YouTuber
🌏 Diversity in product management? It's more than just a nice-to-have—it's essential in today's global reach. Coming from China and diving into the world of product management, I've realized something powerful: our unique backgrounds are strengths, not just personal stories. Understanding Asian culture and the market from a personal angle has given me insights that textbooks just can't offer. If you're an immigrant like me, embrace it! Use your cultural background as a strength in product management. It's our different voices that make products resonate globally, truly speaking to everyone, everywhere. In our connected world, our products should feel like they're made for every user. And to achieve that, we need teams as diverse as our audience. 🤝 I'm curious, how has your own background shaped your work? Let's celebrate our diverse journeys. Share your stories below! #diversity #diversityintech #techdiversity #culture #product #career #productmanagement

📣 Celebrating Phil Skade in this month's #EmployeeAppreciation post! Phil is like our MC, in the middle of everything keeping many plates spinning. He’s hard working and conscientious and always looking for ways to improve. Never a dull moment, and managed against the odds (in our opinion) to come back from his snowboarding trip in one piece. Phil embodies the Filament team spirit, and we’re proud that he’s one of us! Read Phil's Journey with us below: “I joined Filament in November 2021 after having spent a decade in Project, Program and Business Analysis roles in the Financial Services sector. Before all that I’d graduated with a degree in Business Information Systems and so it was probably somewhat inevitable that I gravitated towards big projects which leveraged new technologies and systems to deliver business and customer value! I made the transition into Product Management at Filament as the company itself was making the transition from being a Consultancy to a Product-led organisation, which proved to be a hugely valuable learning opportunity for me personally. During this time we adopted a continuous discovery mindset when ideating on new initiatives or concepts and made prototyping/wire-framing a key component of our product discovery processes. We continued to improve on our experimentation mindset especially for our backend-matching and machine-learning led solutions and we implemented a quantitative data view of how our users were interacting with Syfter so we could properly measure user adoption. On joining the organisation in 2021 I was especially passionate about putting good Product and User Experience Design at the heart of how we build products. I’ve always been super grateful that the Filament Leadership team has backed me when I’ve wanted to make changes, and so this led to us bringing our first full time Product Designer into the Syfter Product Team in early 2022. After Filament completed its Series A in April 2023 I was promoted to Head of Product and tasked with expanding our Product & Design function, which resulted in the hire of another two Product Designers to continue driving the product forward! I promise I’m not exaggerating when I say I love working alongside top-class Design and Engineering professionals every single day to deliver meaningful solutions to customer and business problems. It’s these people who’ve helped drive the 20x growth in user numbers we’ve had over the last 2 years and I’m proud to be playing a small part in all that!” #innovation #team #product #success #experience #growth #learning #development

So much can change in a year! Last year around this time, I was looking for a job after being included in Meta’s first round of mass layoffs. I had taken the holiday season to regroup and recharge, and by the spring I was so deep in the job hunt waters that I barely came out for air. Rounds of interviews, preparing for interviews, company research, and take home assignments took up all my time. The irony is that product manager interviews are rarely like the actual work of a product manager. The highly structured interviews everyone seems to have adopted from the FAANG companies are more about adherence to a formula than the product management tasks I love. That’s why when Women in Product offered scholarship tickets to their annual conference for those impacted by layoffs, I jumped to apply. When my application was accepted, I was delighted to clear my schedule from interviews for those days and focus my attention on some great speakers, inspiring talks, and a chance to focus on some complex product problems other talented PMs were facing. It was an unparalleled chance to listen to some of the smartest minds in my field talking about users, pain points, and brilliant product ideas. The two days of the conference gave me more than a chance to learn from the best. They enabled me to clear my mind from the dreary routine of interviews and focus on what I enjoy most about product work. It reminded me what I was working towards and gave me renewed energy for the search. A few weeks later I started a job as product manager for a product I love, Adopt a Pet. I’ll always be grateful to WIP for not just putting on an amazing conference, but for providing the opportunity for all of us affected by industry-wide layoffs to attend. If you find yourself in that place this year, I urge you to take advantage of this unique offer. Your professional soul will thank you. Day 2/30: Why I joined the #30dayPMwritingchallenge2 I've come across various writing challenges over the years, but this is the first one designed specifically for Product Managers. Starting on September 1 felt fitting, as in Ukraine, it marks the Day of Knowledge, the beginning of the school year. Already, after just one day of the challenge, I've connected with brilliant like-minded individuals, bringing me closer to one of my goals: building strong professional relationships with the product managers community. I've been a product manager for 5 years, working in two different companies. This past year at Losch Digital Lab has given me the opportunity to compare my previous experience with how things are done elsewhere in product management. I'm eager to connect with other product managers and gain insights into how they tackle the job in various industries. I've also wanted to share my experiences and viewpoints for a while, but excuses held me back. Now, thanks to the daily prompts from Omolara Osiyemi, ACIM, and the support of fellow product managers in this challenge, I feel more accountable to write consistently. Let's see if this habit sticks. #theproductcradle #ProductManagement #ProductManagerLife #ProductDevelopment #CareerReflection #ProfessionalGrowth
