Today, Howden Re has announced the completion of its June 1, 2024 renewal, observing a moderation in the property-catastrophe reinsurance market pricing, with average risk-adjusted property-catastrophe reinsurance rates-on-line 5% lower within a typical range of -7.5% to -2.5%. Notably, forecasts predict an active 2024 hurricane season, underscoring inherent market volatility and the need for strategic resilience. David Flandro, Head of Industry and Strategic Advisory at Howden Re, said, “The reinsurance market is at a critical juncture. While the recovery of dedicated capital and increased capacity signal a potential softening of rates, the forecasted active hurricane season and other market pressures could counteract these trends. Strategic adaptability and expert guidance are essential in navigating these dynamics.” Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dCZykNnR #HowdenRe #Howden #Reinsurance #June1Renewals #Insurance

Senior Vice President - Lockton Companies Helping the C-Suite develop customized risk management and employee benefit solutions
Good sign the property market continues to stabilize. Property catastrophe reinsurance rates down 5% on average on a risk-adjusted basis at the key June 1 renewal date, with pressure greatest at the upper-layers of towers. The decrease is attributed to higher capital levels in the sector, according to London-based Howden Broking Group Ltd. Despite the positive trend, risks of reinsurance losses loom due to an expected "extremely active" hurricane season in the Atlantic basin. While the industry sees a potential softening of rates with increased capacity, market pressures like the forecasted hurricane season could offset these improvements.
