CEO of the Online Dating and Discovery Association (ODDA), Co-Founder of Cyber London, Honorary Visiting Fellow at City, University of London and Associate for Dods Plc.
It was an absolute pleasure to speak at the teiss European Information Security Summit earlier today. At the Cyber Resilience Centre for London, we're focused on helping micro-businesses reduce their vulnerability to common cyber threats. Micro-businesses account for 95% of businesses in the Capital where traditional forms of messaging often fail to get through. The fact that basic cyber hygiene has dropped in the last 12 months according to the Government's own figures, shows that we need to do better. I talked about the importance of avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach and using language that resonates with the target audience (recognising that a sole trader is a very different beast to a company employing 250 staff - yet they are both by definition, SMEs). I also talked about the need to shift the narrative to focus on the benefits of good cyber security so that it is seen as an investment rather than a cost. Partnership is key to solving this. Industry, law enforcement, government and academia need to work together more closely. We're part of a network of 9 Centres across the country - come and see how we can help make the UK the safest place to do business online. #cyber #cyberresilience #teiss #London

As Bob Dylan sang “The Times They Are A-Changin”. With cyber becoming a buzz word and the board/exec finally focusing on security, it’s interesting the IANS 2023 Security Budget Benchmark Summary Report confirms our fears that the purse strings are tightening. ‘How do we do more with less?’ However all is not woe, as the CISO budget is increasing as a percentage of the wider IT budget. https://lnkd.in/gepwMviQ
