Two key points of the following article: 1. The Royal Navy does not have enough sailors to send a 3 billion-pound aircraft carrier to the Red Sea. 2. According to experts, as long as salaries are low, this is the situation and no one is willing to work in the Royal Navy. Conclusion: In my opinion, as a person living in the Middle East, this is very good news. But probably the British government is looking for an excuse for not cooperating with US. This government and Shapps are both utterly incompetent in this latest move. Why on earth would anyone cut these assault craft 10 years before time and give us zero amphibious capability. When you listen to the people in charge they are warning us what will happen, but then you ignore them? Whilst I rarely have sympathy with much appearing in the pages of 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑇𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑝ℎ, on this occasion 𝗜 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗹𝘆 with this editorial. The parlous state of the UK's armed forces is an absolute farce! This is especially true of the Royal Navy, with c.£8 billion of taxpayers money having previously been spent on two new aircraft carriers which - at a time of growing hostilities in the Middle East and a genuine threat to international shipping, a threat the Navy is specifically mandated to counter - find themselves docked in Portsmouth Harbour. This follows 14 years of Conservative cuts in general, and to national defence in particular, which have left our aircraft carriers - HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales - short not only of the personnel and fighter jets to actually project the serious military force their designed to, but also of the support ships these giant beasts need for proper protection when deployed (especially in an area like the Red Sea where a number of armed militias have access to increasingly sophisticated anti-ship munitions). Ultimately, the Royal Navy currently lacks both the sailors and the hardware to deploy a full carrier group in the way the United States is able to (with destroyers and frigates protecting the aircraft carrier). If the Conservative Government is (or, indeed, ever was) serious about 'Global Britain', they could start by properly investing in the defence of the realm. And I very much hope that both Labour and my own Liberal Democrats will seriously commit to bringing our United Kingdom's armed force capabilities back up to pre-2010 levels (especially given that, if Donald Trump is re-elected to the US Presidency, he may well withdraw the United States from NATO - leaving Britain and the rest of Europe without the security umbrella we've now enjoyed for over 70 years!) https://lnkd.in/dCkhviJZ #defence #navy #ukgovernment #ukpolitics #armedforces
