Have you ever moved to a small town and wondered how to make a real difference in your community? 🏡🌟 Volunteering is a great way to do just that! Here’s your ultimate guide to making the most impact: 1. Identify Your Passion: Whether it's the environment, education, or senior care, find a cause you care about. You'll be more motivated and invested in your volunteer work. 2. Research Local Needs: What does your new community need most? Visit local community centers, talk to neighbors, or check online forums like community Facebook groups. 3. Match Skills to Needs: Good at organizing events? Are you tech-savvy? Use your unique skills to address local challenges effectively. 4. Start Small, Think Big: Begin with small acts of kindness—like helping at a community event. Over time, you can take on bigger projects or leadership roles. 5. Build Relationships: Get to know the people you're helping and those you're working with. Building trust and connections can lead to more impactful and coordinated efforts. In Dunlap, TN, strong communities are built on a foundation of helping hands and open hearts. A couple of weeks ago, I was asked what the definition of "community engagement" is - here is my answer: Community Engagement is not doing it to our community, nor is it doing it for our community, but rather doing it *with* our community. Engaging your community isn't just getting input from someone - it is a process that should create buy-in, trust, and co-opts ownership of ideas and projects - even if it means you don't get your way, or that it's not perfect (by your definition). Real community engagement is inclusive, transparent, well-planned, and well communicated. It's a hard reframing for some folks. It's hard to instill this in institutions and in teams that are used to their ways, and it's not something you'll get right every day. But community engagement should be seen as a portfolio of actions and intentions, not a snapshot in time - so don't give up on it. In government work, in community work, in nonprofit work, in any work - engaging your community isn't about finding consensus - because if it could be found, it would've been already - it's about creating it.

🌟 Excited to announce my new role as Community Advisor in the dynamic world of collective giving! The fastest-growing form of philanthropy in America, collective giving, is revolutionizing how we support our communities. This movement is not just about pooling funds but also about democratizing and diversifying philanthropy. 📊 Key Insights from Philanthropy Together's latest report: Collective giving groups, predominantly led by women and often women of color, focus on local, community-based organizations. These groups emphasize inclusion and trust-based philanthropy, providing unrestricted donations to support holistic community development. The number of giving circles has surged with over 4,000 groups and 370,000 members contributing more than $3 billion over the past five years. 💡 Why it matters: This approach fosters a democratic, egalitarian form of philanthropy, shifting away from the top-down model of traditional foundations. Members experience improved physical, mental, and spiritual health, and increased civic engagement, creating stronger, more connected communities. I am thrilled to be part of this transformative journey, building resilient communities and empowering diverse voices in philanthropy. Let's continue to champion change, not just charity. #Philanthropy #CollectiveGiving #CommunityImpact #Leadership
