🔍 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗘𝘆𝗲-𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗥 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗥𝗜 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 Researchers at King's College London have developed a novel eye-tracking technology that allows young children to engage in interactive VR experiences during MRI scans. This system, tested on children aged 2 to 13, enables them to play games and watch videos using only their eyes, reducing anxiety and minimizing movement. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀: •𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙂𝙖𝙯𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡: No calibration needed, allowing immediate interaction. •𝙀𝙣𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙈𝙍𝙄 𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮: Reduces head movement, combined with the DISORDER method for motion correction. •𝘾𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩: Games and videos tailored to each child's preferences. 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: Reduces the need for anesthesia and enables new MR studies of awake brain processing. Read More: https://lnkd.in/geJTTD6a Enjoy these updates? I'm very excited about the upcoming Selective Mutism Awareness month! One of the several speaking engagements is at the SMA Conference in USA, where I'll share my work on using virtual reality software as a tool to treat selective mutism. Here is my speaker bio: As an active researcher who pioneered using technology to treat selective mutism, Dr. Poling Bork is currently conducting research on incorporating virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence to improve the treatment process. Her recent study involving older children trialing the world’s first self-served virtual reality software has yielded noteworthy results. In one of her peer-reviewed published studies, Dr. Bork demonstrated how she successfully coached parents and educators to help their children overcome selective mutism within 130 minutes each (within 8 sessions). This is remarkable, especially since these children had long-standing SM and had received numerous failed interventions before Dr. Bork’s involvement. Due to this success, Dr. Bork is detailing the entire process in her book "VOCAL: Help Your Child Conquer Selective Mutism in <3 Hours with a Proven Strategy," so that everyone can access this easy-to-understand information, which tends to be reserved for the research world. Within 2 years, VOCAL has touched SM communities worldwide and has been translated into 8 languages! Dr. Bork herself, as well as all three of her children, have suffered from SM, so she has made it a personal mission to assist others impacted by it. Can virtual reality (VR) help manage aggressive behaviours in mental health inpatient units? 🖥️ Dr. Lora Appel, an affiliate scientist at UHN's KITE Research Institute, is researching how VR can be incorporated into the Safewards model to reduce aggression. The Safewards model is a framework developed to address issues of aggression using relaxation techniques. With the study's findings, researchers aim to revolutionize how mental health units manage aggression to support patients and staff. Read more 👇 https://bit.ly/4dDCzWs

We are excited to introduce our first presenter for our upcoming ADP event, Haripriya Sathyanarayanan EDAC, WELL AP, LEED AP Haripriya is a PhD candidate and Regent's Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. Her presentation is titled: Pediatric Inpatient Room Design: A Neuroarchitecture and Affect Study with VR and Biofeedback Hospitalization impacts pediatric patients' well-being significantly, making supportive design essential. In this presentation, Haripriya will share her study employing virtual reality (VR), eye-tracking, and facial electromyography (fEMG) to analyze how room design influences children's and parents' emotional responses, examining the effects of different room layouts—outboard versus inboard—on 28 participants, including younger children, older children, and their parents. Recent research has shown that aerobic exercise can benefit learning and memory in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). Can increasing sensory input via virtual reality (VR) augment these benefits? The COMBINE trial will test the effects of a cognitive rehabilitation program with VR-based exercise intervention on cognitive function. Researchers hypothesized that this will result in greater improvements in list-learning and visuospatial, prose, and everyday memory. This trial may provide evidence for a combinatory approach to cognitive rehabilitation, especially in those with greater disease progression. 🌐 Virtual Reality Boosts Exercise Engagement by #Sensing #Emotions Source: University of Bath By Neuroscience News 🔷 Adaptive #VR #exergames, which adjust difficulty based on a user’s emotional state, can improve exercise adherence and enjoyment. By using #sensors to monitor #physiological changes like heart rate and facial expressions, these #games can dynamically respond to how a person feels, keeping them engaged longer. Key Facts: 🔹VR #exergames can adapt difficulty based on real-time emotional data. 🔹Sensors track #physiological changes like pupil size, heart rate, and sweat levels. 🔹Adaptive exergames may improve #longterm engagement in #fitness routines. 🔷 “Exercise games that are completely adaptive will sense a person’s #emotions and give them more ‘rewards’ when they’re struggling and more obstacles when they’re ready for a new challenge.” 👉https://lnkd.in/g-usSbjU #virtualreality #vr #neurotech #neuroscience #games #web3 #exercise #adaptive #realtime #physiology #virtual #immersive #engagement #exergames #fitness #wellness #futureoffitness #healthtech #digitalhealth #healthcare Credit: Neuroscience News

Can virtual reality diagnose and treat mental illnesses better than traditional methods? ➡️ Researchers from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and EPFL have discovered that virtual reality can induce self-location illusions and activate grid cells in the brain without physical movement or visual cues. ➡️ This groundbreaking study used MRI-compatible VR technology and multisensory stimulation to create the illusion of being in a different location. ➡️ The findings reveal that our brain's GPS coordinates respond to cognitive experiences, opening new avenues for diagnosing hallucinatory symptoms and developing therapies for conditions like out-of-body experiences. ❓ The research highlights the potential of VR to revolutionize our understanding and treatment of neurological disorders by targeting specific brain mechanisms.
