[Google Play Cleanups] Every month, Google Play removes over 100,000 apps—far more than it adds. I consider this excellent news, as the mobile indie market is frankly stagnating. The competition is super high, organic reach is either non-existent or only appears with paid promotion, making regular iteration of the game quite expensive. I want to believe that this trend will continue, thereby partially reducing the competition for organic reach. Although, most of the removals are still related to violations of Google's rules. #GooglePlayCleanup #AppMarketTrends #MobileIndieStagnation #CompetitionInApps #OrganicReachChallenges #IndieGameDevelopment #AppStoreOptimization #DigitalMarketplace #GooglePlayPolicies #AppRemovals #TechNews #GameDevCosts #ReducingCompetition #AppIndustryInsights #PolicyCompliance #google #unity #gamedev #gamedevelopment #devhubgames #sushidiver

Google Playtime is back, and it was great! Yesterday, I attended Google Playtime 2023 in Berlin. Google speakers and industry guests highlighted the importance of building for long-term growth: 🚀 Live Operations: Wooga demonstrated the incredible evolution of June's Journey, where varied, (real-time) engagement in liveops and strategic development of competitive and collaborative social features paved the way to 1bn$ in lifetime revenue 💰 Global Monetization & Growth: Just two highlights from an afternoon packed with Google Play stats and business advice: 1) Action games need 32 markets to reach 90% of their revenue, while in RPGs the same share of revenue is concentrated to only 10 markets. 2) Long-term IAP revenue growth correlates much more with number of buyers (first time, but in particular repeat buyers over a long period of time) than with ARPPU - long-term payer loyalty and engagement is the key. And I'm so looking forward to some of the Google Play console features coming up throughout the next year. A big thank you to Google for hosting and great to meet Yuxi (Vicky) Yu Juho Juhantalo Hoang Thanh Van Rudi Vij - Mobile App Promotion Robert Simpson Tom Grinsted Chris Thür Craig Forret Wojciech Kasprzyk Anette Dahlstrøm Ståløy Stephen Lee Derk de Geus Balaji Vijayan Janos Perei Pavel Dolezal 🤖🔮 and so many others :) #GooglePlaytime #AppDevelopment #GameDevelopment #TechEvents

My mini category generator for parties is already available on Google Play 😁 I'm slowly working on my platformers in Unity until my laptop starts to refuse obedience because it's overloaded. I think, "I'll work on other projects for a while; after buying better equipment, I'll come back and finish my 'more ambitious' games." That is until I'm gently reminded, and a warning pops up on my Google Play console about closing the dev account if the app isn't published by the X day. Oops, what now? My hardware won't let me finish my games, and X day is approaching inexorably quickly. And that's when my small, basic mobile app comes to the rescue. It’s basically a category generator for a party game. In short, if you want to play Categories, this app is a good helper. Of course, it turned out that playing with UI scaling, optimizations, version upgrades, and Google's requirements consumes some ‘mental resources’, but it was fun overall. I know it’s very basic, especially compared to my platformer games with different mechanics, but if anyone needs it, the app is already running on Google Play 😊 LINK: https://lnkd.in/dm-xzyvW P.S. Large and XLarge screens are temporarily not supported.

I am super excited to share that my husband Thai Tran created a fun strategy mobile game that it's now available on the Google Play Store in open beta. If you own an android device and you like puzzle/math games, please give it a shot and share! #mobilegames #puzzlegame #mathgames #androidgames #strategygames https://lnkd.in/gtsSvMQh Here is what the game is about: Players engage in strategic battles using numbered tiles. The objective? Accumulate as many points as possible by expanding your territory. Here is how it works: Tile Placement: Each player starts with a set of tiles, each bearing a numerical value. These tiles represent your influence on the game board.

"Apple Maps on the web is available in public beta, allowing users around the world to access Maps directly from their browser" I think the importance of maps as an os layer will only grow in importance. Primarily for AR and mobility, but also as an ad platform. As TikTok and Instagram unseat Google in the realm of local search, I see a realm of possibilities for Meta Maps and SnapMap. Mobile + location + discovery + UGC

In the last few weeks, I've received several questions about the marketability of mobile games, particularly regarding 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲 retention rates. What constitutes a really good (and achievable) next day retention rate across different genres? 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 To address this, I'd like to share some insights. I've compiled data from discussions with many developers (thanks to my extensive network in the industry, built through past activities with Google teams in Europe, Brazil, China, Vietnam, India, and Africa), along with data occasionally shared by Google Play teams (ie. genre reports some time ago) At the attached chart, you'll find ranges for Day 2 retention rates (where the install day is considered Day 1) 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬 Of course from the start I will add a few asterisks: ✱ This is my personal view based on limited data points. Please treat this information with caution, as in some cases, it relies on a very small sample size. ✱ Typically, Android versions have slightly lower retention rates than average, while iOS versions have slightly higher rates ✱ It's important to note that game genres and subgenres encompass a wide array of titles with significant differences. Some genres and subgenres are less clearly defined. ✱ These are averages taken from T1 markets. In most cases, these rates will be slightly lower for T2 and T3 markets. At the same time, it would be great to hear any feedback: - ✅ Is it useful in this form anyway? If yes, feel free to reshare, comment, add "Like" - ✅ Do you agree or disagree with some of the points? It would be great to improve this based on your views and data #mobilegaming #mobilegames #data #marketability #gaming
