Unlocking the Mobile Gaming Vault: Roblox's remarkable success continues to soar! With an impressive $7 billion in player spending on iOS and Android, it's a force to be reckoned with. Digging into the data reveals an astounding $4.2 billion in in-app purchases, showcasing the platform's financial prowess. The US leads the charge, contributing 58% of mobile revenue, trailed by the UK, Canada, South Korea, and Australia. Globally, Roblox boasts a massive 995 million downloads, with the US securing a 20% share, followed by Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Russia. These numbers only scratch the surface! The platform's total earnings, including PC and consoles, are even higher, reaching $2.2 billion in 2022. Despite a 13% YoY dip in IAP revenue, Roblox emerges as the top free-to-play mobile game in 2023, with 190 million downloads year-to-date. It's also the fifth highest-grossing title, raking in over $753 million, trailing behind industry giants like Candy Crush Saga and Genshin Impact.

Roblox broke its own record again last weekend with 10.2M playing concurrently. With 80 million people logging into Roblox daily, and 380 million doing so on a monthly basis, Matthew Ball does an excellent job of putting these numbers into context: 📈 Roblox likely has more monthly users than the entire AAA gaming ecosystem combined. - Twice as many as Steam. - Three times as many as PlayStation. - Three times the number of annual users of the Nintendo Switch. - Five times the number of Xbox consoles sold in the last decade. 📱 It's even bigger compared to its direct competitors. Roblox has more iOS/Android monthly active users than any other game, including Candy Crush. Roblox has about five times as many monthly players as Minecraft and 2.25 times as many as Fortnite. 🖥️ It's proven to be just as intertwined in the social fabric as other social and entertainment apps Roblox has two-thirds as many monthly users as Spotify and half as many as Snapchat. Players spend six billion hours per month on Roblox (twice as much as Disney+), which doesn't even account for all the YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch content that is consumed, which may be just as large. 🎯 There’s no sign of Roblox’s growth slowing down, with the platform expected to surpass half a billion MAUs and 100 million DAUs in the near future. And yet, many wonder when the company will become profitable. Check out Matthew Ball's analysis on what it will take to get there in the comments below.

Muscle memory is something ingrained in gamers from the moment they pick up a new system, fight mechanic, or UI, and so when changes start coming in out of left field, it leaves an understandably sour taste in everyone’s mouth. Roblox players had the unfortunate opportunity to experience this when the Roblox Home Page was altered overnight. Featuring bigger game tiles with a 16:9 ratio, the totally unintuitive relocation of players’ continued games lists, and the removal of player counts, the changes have got the community pretty riled up. Understandably so, because when you’ve played something for so long, you’ll notice even the tiniest of alterations. So to shake up the entire Home Page is a bold move, and Roblox players really aren’t happy about it. Without mobile games, the video games industry would be far less lucrative. According to a Newzoo forecast from August 2023, half of the money made with games is generated on smartphones and tablets. Due to the nature of free-2-play and pay-2-win games, the mobile segment is seen by some as more akin to gambling than gaming, posing a risk especially to younger audiences. Still, it deserves to be analyzed more thoroughly than it is in most mainstream and specialist media. For example, in 2022, Honor of Kings was the highest-grossing mobile game according to AppMagic data with revenues of $1.8 billion this past year alone. It's a title geared towards players in Asian countries and therefore one Western audiences might be unfamiliar with. Coming in second and third are games that should ring quite a few more bells: The mobile version of one of the granddads of battle royale, PUBG ($1.5 billion), and widely-covered gacha game Genshin Impact ($1.4 billion). Candy Crush Saga, developed by Swedish company King which is owned by Activision Blizzard which is now owned by Microsoft ranked fourth in terms of revenue in 2022, while Roblox stood in fifth place. This shows that not only games from China have the potential to make it big in the mobile space. Compared to the PC and console market, Chinese titles do have the upper hand due to an immense playerbase in the People's Republic. Plus: Smartphones have always been widely available in China, unlike gaming consoles, which were banned in the country until 2015. https://lnkd.in/gz9k7Ywb #mobilegames #gaming

#crossplatform integration in #gaming refers to the capability of a game to run seamlessly across different gaming platforms or devices, such as consoles, PCs, and mobile devices. As a game developer, ensuring cross-platform compatibility is essential for several reasons: 1. **Player Accessibility:** Cross-platform integration enhances accessibility, allowing players to enjoy the game on their preferred device without being restricted to a specific platform. This inclusivity broadens the player base and fosters a more diverse gaming community. 2. **Increased Player Base:** By enabling players on various platforms to engage with each other, the game's player base expands significantly. This interconnectedness enhances multiplayer experiences, reduces matchmaking times, and contributes to the longevity of the #gamingcommunity 3. **User Convenience:** Cross-platform play provides players with the flexibility to switch between devices seamlessly. Players can start a game on one platform and continue their progress on another, promoting a user-friendly and convenient #gamingexperience. 4. **Economic Benefits:** For game developers, supporting cross-platform integration can lead to increased revenue. By attracting a larger player base, developers have the potential to sell more copies of the game and generate additional revenue through in-game purchases, subscriptions, or other monetization models. 5. **#CompetitiveAdvantage:** #Games that embrace cross-platform integration gain a competitive edge in the market. Offering a feature that enhances player experience and accommodates diverse gaming preferences can set a title apart from others and contribute to its success. 6. **Long-Term Engagement:** Cross-platform play fosters a more engaged and committed player community. As players can connect with friends across different platforms, they are more likely to stay invested in the game over the long term, contributing to its overall success and sustainability. In summary, cross-platform integration is a strategic move in the gaming industry that promotes inclusivity, expands player bases, and provides economic benefits for developers. It is a crucial aspect of modern game development, reflecting the industry's commitment to meeting the diverse needs and preferences of players across various gaming platforms.
