My captain!" - Rachel Carling The latest publication in #JIMDReports tackles an oft neglected but essential aspect of metabolic management, improving the quality and consistency of dried bloodspot monitoring. Whilst the ability to take bloodspots at home and transport samples via the standard postal system, is undoubtedly a key part of care with PKU and several other IMDs, issue remain around the quality of samples with frustration amongst patients, clinicians and scientists around inadequate and rejected samples. In this paper, Dr Carling et al present data on the use of the Capitainer-DBS system and how, for a nominal cost, we could offer improved result standardisation and reduce the number of rejected samples.
