The Fundamentals of Hospitality: Celebrate Success Always! Our industry moves at a ferocious pace. Guests come and go, months fly by, targets keep us busy, and it can often be a new year before we know it! We often get caught up with a focus on the next day, the next target, or the next milestone, and we forget to celebrate. Every win is a win, and taking time to measure backward is just as important as looking forward. Never forget the progress you have made as an individual and team, whether big or small. Spending time to celebrate wins is fundamental in building a strong, high-performing and motivated team in the long run! #TheFundamentalsofHospitality #Celebrate #Wins

clarity and the insights are invaluable 🙃
On being the best among peers, for hoteliers in recent years I have been witnessing a proliferation of awards for hospitality executives in various levels and positions. Although I am for the recognition of team achievement, as witnessed or presented by an external and unbiased organization, it puzzles me when the spotlight turns into one person, singling him/her out of a team that counts from tenths to hundreds of people. The basic reasons on my reluctance is beyond subjective preferences or “overstated humility”; it has to do with the principle that a leader is as good as its team; also that several of those positions such as GM, Financial controller, Marketeer or Sales manager to name a few, are mostly judged from their own companies and asset teams on SMART goals and KPIs that the public is not privy. So how can we select the best when we lack such important information on one’s performance. It’s purely on perception or subjectivity, to name a few. let alone the institutions that almost "commercialise" those awards... On the other side, a chef or bartender that wins a competition or presents a signature new dish or menu or cooking style can be singled out as per individual creativity, innovation and execution that can be measured with clear criteria and measurable impact. I may displease some esteemed colleagues but the sportification and self mediatisation of a calling such as hospitality sets the wrong principles for the team that surrounds us and infuses some kind of vanity that is not needed in our level or profession. The comparison with government or military positions and recognition standards in those fields is more relevant (can we imagine an award for best minister or best general...) than sports and other businesses. Open to your feedback.

Helping Businesses Build Superhero-Level Service Cultures I Small Business Owner I Speaker I Author I Success Trails Podcast
I have great news about your business and delivering Superhero level service 👇🏻 I often get asked how we are able to deliver consistent service at my different locations no matter the team member. The answer is that we are relentless with our service training. For you it can't be a 10 minute chat when we first hire someone. For you it can't be a one a quarter hire an consultant to train your team. It's putting effort and priority to leveling up your service. But the good news is that there is no reason you can't be the Ritz Carlton of your industry. It doesn't take $$$$. It takes focus.
