While the main stream media and the social media “news” outlets seem to only air stories of Police Officers doing bad, each day Law Enforcement Officers across the United States commit far many more acts of heroism that get ignored. Officers run into burning buildings to save people, they confront armed and dangerous criminals, the jump on subway and train tracks to rescue suicidal or incapacitated people, they treat possible fatal wounds before medical personnel can arrive on scene, they shelter possible victims from gunfire, and so many other acts that meet the definition of valor and heroism. But to often, now one knows because the media wants the “sexy police corruption” case or flamboyant, unverified, and false stories about police wrong doing. Law Enforcement must do a better job of pushing out the good and heroic news that Officers do day in a day out to counter all the negative news. Remember a lie travels the world a hundred times before the truth gets out of bed. We must no longer remain quiet or shun the press or saying “no comment.” We must push press releases to the media routinely as well as take our stories to the public directly through as many social media sites as we can. The people need to hear the truth and law enforcement needs to be the ones that tell it. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policechief #policedepartment #sheriff #deputy #marshal #constable #federalagent #fbi #atf #dea #doj #cop #cops #copscountpolicematter #policematter #policingmatters #policing #policeman #publicsafety #communitysafety #publictrust #protectandserve #criminaljustice #criminaljusticesystem #leadership #respect #law #districtattorney #prosecutors International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum National Police Chiefs' Council National Policing Institute National Police Association Police Strategy Forum National Sheriffs' Association National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) California Police Chiefs Association FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. Retired Sheriff’s Captain; Former CA POST Executive Director; Police & Corrections Practices Expert; Public Safety Consultant; Government Relations Strategist...
Let us take a moment to unpack what’s happening in Washington state. In recent years, they have been passing one piece of legislation after another that favors the criminal and restricts law enforcement in their ability to do their job. If you follow the news, you know that many cities like Seattle are in significant staffing declines and they cannot fill officer vacancies. Here is a newsflash for the state of Washington: funding additional positions isn’t going to solve the problem. You can’t hire additional officers if the ones already on the job are leaving at record numbers. If they want to get serious about addressing crime problems, they need to elect new policymakers who will pass legislation in support of law enforcement instead of criminals. It’s that simple.
Yes, yes, and yes! “We need to hire more police officers. We don’t need to have the most police officers per capita, but we shouldn’t have the fewest police officers per capita,” House Minority leader Rep. Drew Stokesbary said. “If we could just get to the middle of the pack, that would be a pretty gosh darn good improvement.” #publicsafety #recruitment #lawenforcement #WAleg https://lnkd.in/dCjjkERm

It is great that Seattle Police Officers are getting the raise in pay they so richly deserve. However, money has little to do with Officers remaining at a Department. This has been shown time and time again. These raises in pay will not stop Officers from leaving their department or create a great number of recruits to fill empty spots. Until these Officers see true leadership within their Department and support from the City Government and the public, they will continue to leave and rightfully so. #police #policeofficer #policeofficers #officer #officers #lawenforcement #lawenforcementofficer #policechief #policedepartment #sheriff #deputy #marshal #constable #federalagent #fbi #atf #dea #doj #cop #cops #copscountpolicematter #policematter #policingmatters #policing #policeman #publicsafety #communitysafety #publictrust #protectandserve #criminaljustice #criminaljusticesystem #leadership #respect #law International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum National Police Chiefs' Council National Policing Institute National Police Association National Sheriffs' Association Police1 American Police Beat Law Enforcement Today Southern Police Institute FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. Agree that a stop and search should be approached with dignity and respect. Weed out the officers who abuse their position - don't continue to police-bash our law enforcement. It is not clear to me why many people have an issue with stop and search conducted with dignity. Yes, I have. Outside Oakwood station some years ago. No issue with it. Issues arising might be late for work/appointment/catching a train/attending emergency hospital and such like. Some people may feel embarrassed. The problem is not stop and search. It's the way we demonise it in operation. "The police are not doing enough to curb crime/knife crime". Untie their hands. Look to weeding out the gung-ho idiots and let them - police. Education - make it known: Caught packing? Caution. Caught again? Automatic five year sentence. Education - make it known: Acting like a street rat - commit homicide? Life imprisonment. Human rights? What of the rights of the deceased and their loved ones? Of the possible generations of lives that person may have brought into this world? and who those people might have been, what they would have contributed to in our communities? It's always someone elses fault right? Wrong. Responsibility, accountability - culpability and resilience. Cause and effect.
Last month, our super-complaint joint investigation found that the police must do more to minimise harm when using stop and search powers and to understand the effectiveness of these powers. ⬇️ Read more: https://ow.ly/8ryS50QvtJN Criminal Justice Alliance | College of Policing | Independent Office for Police Conduct

Read the words. Let them trouble you. Trauma in policing is omnipresent. And when grief has nowhere to go - in the fast pace of policing or within a culture used to saying “this is what we do, get over it” - it turns into dark days that become dark months that become the end of hope. I have lost 3 to suicide, in my first 17 years at this work. And I’m making it my life’s goal to not lose one more. Join the movement. Start a conversation today about active suicide prevention.
Almost 1 in 4 officers have had thoughts of suicide at some point in their lives. More police die by suicide than by homicide: the number of police suicides is 2.3 times that of homicides. The suicide rate for police officers is four times higher than the rate for firefighters. It’s time to elevate compassion in policing. For greater performance. For greater resilience. For greater officer well-being. #30X30 #ProjectCompassion #compassion #police #policewellbeing #officerwellbeing #equityinlawenforcement
