Advocacy Storyteller: strategic communications, partner relations and resource mobilization for the greater good.
A new report from consulting firm Chartis shows that 50% of the nation’s rural hospitals are operating at a loss and 20% are vulnerable to closure, potentially leading to more care deserts in these communities. This crisis is bigger than just one issue, but if I may permit myself the *smallest* of hot takes, I would just note that a lot of states are passing laws and policies that would discourage many medical professionals from taking up work there... to the detriment not only of the people who need these specific forms of care, but every member of the community. #healthcare #ruralhealth

Why do unhoused individuals often turn to hospital Emergency Departments for non-emergencies like sprained wrists or back pain? Without a regular healthcare provider and unsure how to access urgent care, there is nowhere else to go. They rely on emergency services for basic health needs, not because it’s the best option, but because it’s the only option. #lifemoves #lifemovesorg #kaiser #outreach

The strongest possible affirmation of the whole thrust of this #AFR article. Our own experience over several admissions into acute care determined our mutual decision to do everything possible to allow for a gentle loving supported death at home. This did happen. Only possible through #palliativecare, #Districtnursing, #rostereddearfriends, #fulltimeCarerSpouse In no way underestimating the huge toll of such an approach. But it does and did make a good death possible. These are issues and approaches that deserve much more engagement. The clinical medicalisation of dying is not the only way. There is a deeply rich alternative. #CouncilOfEldersAgedCare

As someone who has used this service over the years as my kids grew up and reccomended to many friends the only thing it is missing is a great advertising campaign to let consumers know it exists. It doesn’t have to be a choice between high value care and low value dial a doctor/ prescription ( because the provider also owns a pharmacy🤔) When many health consumers can’t afford to see a GP regularly , this service improves access and equity and can support traditional Primary Care in the unsociable hours as they invest in technology that supports continuity of care with your regular GP. #highvaluecare #continuityofcare

Our hospitals are busy, and sometimes that means longer than usual wait times in Emergency Departments - however we're working to relieve some of this stress. We all know the meaning on 000. Soon we could have another triple-digit number supporting patients who may not be required to attend an Emergency Department. In 2023, over 175,000 people received support from Healthdirect where non-urgent medical care was suitable. In healthcare, building more sophisticated modern tertiary care may be seen as a partial solution to the current congestion and waiting time to seek treatment. However, healthcare to me should not be dramatic, we hope to be swiftly born and peacefully die if possible. Prevention of non communicable diseases, social education/intervention for communicable diseases and environmental health are best practices we should be focusing on. However, many of these preventative interventions may not be that tangible for meaningful measurements. Perhaps our KPIs should be now not door to operation table time in teritary settings, but rather the confidence of each individual to care for their health and not needing tertiary healthcare. Perhaps we should reward them as well. Picture taken of an unremarkable concrete table and chair at a void deck. Lotus Eldercare Private Limited #preventivehealthcare
