In an article posted by Associated Builders and Contractors they talk about a guide to how contractors can be up to 7 times safter when compared to the industry average. There were 2 points that stood out to me: - Toolbox talks: Companies that conduct daily toolbox talks reduce TRIR by 78% and DART rates by 76% compared to companies that hold them monthly. - New hire safety orientation: Companies that conduct an in-depth indoctrination of new employees into the safety culture, systems and processes based on a documented orientation process experience incident rates that are 48% to 52% lower than companies that limit their orientations to basic health and safety compliance topics. #AustinTX #AustinConstruction #SkilledLabor

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recently released their 2024 Safety Performance Report, which emphasizes the significant impact of four major factors contributing to safe work environments in construction. These include top management engagement, substance abuse prevention programs, new hire safety orientation, and the frequency of toolbox talks on reducing incident rates. The report, based on real data from STEP member companies like ours, demonstrates that implementing industry-leading safety processes leads to improved health and safety performance regardless of company size or type of work, reinforcing the importance of ongoing safety initiatives in the construction industry. At Willow Construction, safety is our top priority. Today Willow crews at jobsites across the Eastern Shore will take time to observe Safety Stand-Down Day. This is a crucial time for us to check in with one another and hold training sessions that address potential worksite hazards, identify protective methods, and review our company’s safety policies and goals. Celebrate Construction Safety Week – May 6th-10th, 2024 Construction Safety Week is an annual event designed to raise awareness of the industry’s ongoing commitment to building a culture of safety through sharing best practices, tools, and resources at jobsites and offices across the US and Canada. The theme for 2024 is “Value Every Voice” - by driving personal ownership, encouraging and welcome new ideas, embrace every voice, and strengthen our culture, we can make the industry a safer place for all. According to OSHA, a worker died every 96 minutes from a work-related injury in 2022, compared to every 101 minutes in 2021. In 2022, workers in transportation and material moving occupations experienced 1,620 fatal work injuries and represented the occupational group with the most fatalities. Construction and extraction workers make up the next highest group with fatalities with 1,056 in 2022. Transportation incidents remain the most frequent type of fatal events accounting for 37.7% of all occupational fatalities. In 2022, there were 2,066 fatal injuries from transportation incidents, a 4.2% increase from 2021. We can help work to lower those numbers and strengthen the industry’s safety culture by being focused and safety-minded whenever we are on a job site, whether on the working out on roads or on construction sites. What is your best everyday safety tip?

In construction safety, one thing is certain: there’s a lot of uncertainty. 👷♂️ Every worksite presents a constantly evolving array of hazards, which means the risk of injury is constantly fluctuating, and there’s rarely enough time or logistical ability to conduct more than the mandatory baseline safety training. Every single industry has to contend with real-time shifts in risk, but construction companies have to deal with the problem on an entirely different level. 🏗️ Read the full article on three key indicators of an intervention's capacity to navigate the unpredictable tides of risk with the link below. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gZ-CnV2Z #ConstructionIndustryArticle #ConstructionSafety #ConstructionSafetyWeek #ConstructionComapnies

Safety never takes a day off, especially in construction. Construction Safety Week also partners with OSHA to raise awareness about fall hazards and promote safety on our job sites. Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, and OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries. Let's work together to prevent accidents and ensure everyone goes home safe at the end of the day. https://lnkd.in/gt5SFzn #constructionsafetyweek #contractors #construction #safety
