March 4-8 is National Aplastic Anemia & MDS (myelodysplastic syndromes) Awareness Week. Aplastic anemia, or bone marrow failure, is a serious and potentially fatal blood condition where the body stops producing enough new blood cells to function properly. At Garuda, we’re committed to advancing our off-the-shelf, blood stem cell therapies with the potential to offer a curative treatment to patients with hematological diseases such as Aplastic Anemia and MDS. Get involved and learn more from the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation: bit.ly/3UZHDP2

Did you know graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) can occur after a blood stem cell transplant? This condition happens when donor cells attack a recipient's organs and/or tissues. While it can be serious, it can also be managed. As a proud member of the GVHD Alliance, we're working together with leading transplant organizations to improve access to resources and support for patients with GVHD like Olivia. Discover more about the alliance's collective efforts and help us spread the word this coming GVHD Day 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDXmJmaQ #GVHDDay #GVHDAlliance #NMDP

Not every patient responds to drugs in the same way 💊 . This may be due to differences in DNA. The structure of genes in DNA can make certain drugs work faster or slower. This is why geneticists are now creating a profile that can be used to determine exactly what patients' expected sensitivity is to certain medication. It will become available to our haematology patients this month. In cancer treatments such as stem cell therapy or CAR-T cell therapy, incorrect starting doses can have consequences. Haematologist 👩⚕️ Carolien Woolthuis expects a lot from the DNA profile: ‘It shows which dosage best suits the patient. That can make all the difference.' 👍 Geneticists Jackie Dekens and Lude Franke will investigate whether it can also be applied to patients with other conditions, such as cardiovascular disease. They will also investigate whether healthy individuals can also benefit. 'We want to know whether all the information is clear and whether participants also want to share it with their healthcare providers. And we would like to investigate whether it makes sense to make such a DNA profile of everyone.' Curious to find out more? ➡ https://lnkd.in/eTQpj--Q #haematology, #dna #lifelines

BEYOND INHALERS: A BROADER SCOPE OF TREATMENT OPTIONS: Clinical trials are also exploring treatments that go beyond simply managing symptoms. Some promising areas include: Allergen immunotherapy: This therapy gradually exposes patients to small amounts of their allergens, helping the immune system build tolerance and reduce allergic reactions. Bronchial thermoplasty: This minimally invasive procedure uses heat to reduce the thickness of the airway walls, potentially leading to fewer asthma attacks and improved lung function. Stem cell therapy: Early research suggests that stem cells may have the potential to repair damaged airway tissues and improve lung function in patients with severe asthma. #Asthma #ClinicalTrials #ParticipantCube

❌ Natural Killer Cells in Action 📹 Natural killer (NK) cells are effector lymphocytes of the innate immune system that control several types of tumors and microbial infections by limiting their spread and subsequent tissue damage. Recent research highlights the fact that NK cells are also regulatory cells engaged in reciprocal interactions with dendritic cells, macrophages, T cells and endothelial cells. NK cells can thus limit or exacerbate immune responses. Although NK cells might appear to be redundant in several conditions of immune challenge in humans, NK cell manipulation seems to hold promise in efforts to improve hematopoietic and solid organ transplantation, promote antitumor immunotherapy and control inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. #CellTherapy #Healthcare #Science #Biology #HealthcareMarketing

Hematopoietic stem cells are at the forefront of a transformative shift in modern medicine, beginning to revolutionize patient care by offering novel therapeutic treatments for a wide range of diseases. Hematopoietic stem cells are advancing treatments for hematological conditions such as leukemia and lymphoma and offering hope for regenerative therapies in conditions such as autoimmune diseases and genetic disorders. This review blog explores the clinical use of hematopoietic stem cells in regenerative therapies. 🌟 Register now for our upcoming webinar: "From the Lab to the Bench: Scaling up Regulatory T Cell Therapy." Register here: https://lnkd.in/gbYgfq5e 🗓️ Date: Thursday, September 12th, 2024 🕗 Time: 11:00 EDT Join us to hear from Megan Levings, Ph.D., from the University of British Columbia and the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, who will present compelling data on how CAR-engineered Tregs can induce immune tolerance. This breakthrough has significant implications for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, organ transplants, and stem cell transplantation. The discussion will also cover the importance of producing these therapeutics in a closed, automated environment to minimize contamination risks and human error. Don't miss out on this opportunity! #Webinar #RegulatoryTCellTherapy #Immunology #Autoimmune

Natural Killer (NK) cells combat cancer by inducing programmed cell death (apoptosis) and cell injury death (necrosis) in tumor cells. They trigger apoptosis by engaging death receptors on cancer cells or releasing cytotoxic substances like perforin and granzymes, which disrupt the cancer cell's membrane and initiate the apoptosis pathway. NK cells can also cause necrosis by directly damaging the cancer cell's membrane or through inflammatory responses, leading to cell rupture and death. These mechanisms enable NK cells to eliminate cancer cells and prevent tumor growth. #immunotherapy #immunology #Innate_Immune_System
