Venturing into the world of dirt biking adventures opens up a whole new realm of excitement. To master various terrains, adaptability and technique are key. On sandy surfaces, reduce tire pressure to increase traction and learn to handle the bike's sliding tendencies. In rocky terrain, stand up on the footpegs to let your bike glide smoothly over obstacles. When tackling muddy trails, maintain momentum and avoid abrupt movements to stay in control. Uphill and downhill riding requires different approaches. Shift your weight forward on uphill trails, and use engine braking and controlled braking while descending. Exploring diverse terrains not only challenges your skills but also allows you to connect with nature and experience the thrill of conquering new landscapes.

Monday Motivation 💛✨️🧡✨️💛✨️🧡 My favorite hobby is hiking! I love being in nature, walking amongst trees and climbing dirt trails. I've learned that you can’t just walk on flat ground if you want to summit a mountain. If you want the reward that comes with summiting, you have to conquer all of the challenges that come with hiking. No challenge, no reward. This is, in part, one of the reasons I feel myself drawn to the mountains—the challenge and the reward. The goal is clear cut: make it to the top (if you can) and overcome all of the setbacks and obstacles along the way. The reward is both spectacular and satisfying. You get to see awe-inspiring views and feel a deep sense of accomplishment for overcoming the challenges and sweat that were required to make it there. 😬 The person you become "during" the journey and difficult hike is when the magic happens. Accept the challenges in life! 𝙱𝚊𝚌𝚔 𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚝 (𝟼 𝚖𝚘𝚗𝚝𝚑𝚜 𝚊𝚕𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚢) 🤗 It’s already been 6 months since May-Ling Lee Meeuw Kjoe, the kids and I returned from our 3-month family trip to Australia. To be honest, I haven’t taken the time to reflect yet. I had written an ‘out of office’ note but didn’t really follow up on the return, so to close the loop, here it is. Let me start by saying that I recommend this to everyone in one way or another. The quality time and the adventure together are truly invaluable. It was all about us—stepping outside our bubble and giving each other lots of attention. I’d say we took the following from the trip, from Australia, and from each other: 1. Spend time together and do it outdoors, and if you have kids, play with them. 2. There are more important things than ‘work,’ but work does give you fulfillment and a sense of purpose. 3. So, make sure you have a job that provides that. 4. Be hospitable and share with those around you. 5. Try to plan less (with others) and leave room for spontaneity. Well, we Dutch are not pretty good at that last one, so that’s still a work in progress, and it took me 6 months to find the time to write this reflection. It’s challenging to implement certain aspects into your daily life, but the whole trip did give us a beautiful new perspective. The coming months will be wonderful. The fall/winter season is upon us, so plenty of time to get outside— skiing, running, or walking or whatever else gets you outdoors 🙌

Last week, my family and I indulged in the beauty of Vermont's slopes before the end of our college students' winter break. Last Wednesday's storm interrupted our ski day, leading me to take a day off from the slopes. Instead of viewing it as a setback, I embraced the opportunity for self-care; – made a few work calls, had some quality family time, and a chance to breathe in the fresh mountain air. Returning to the slopes the next day, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my skiing performance had improved. It reinforced a valuable lesson – even on vacation, our bodies need rest to perform optimally. This experience highlighted the crucial role of balance in our well-being. In the realm of functional medicine, we emphasize holistic self-care. Skiing, surrounded by the crisp mountain air, became a rejuvenating experience for both body and mind. It's not about the cold; with proper attire, the body thrives in the invigorating mountain environment. As we pursue exhilarating activities, let's not forget the essence of self-care and its impact on overall health.
