A secondary analysis of the Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition (APrON) cohort study suggests that maternal levels of iron and vitamin D could significantly impact mental health during pregnancy. The findings indicate that maintaining sufficient levels of these nutrients during the second trimester is associated with fewer symptoms of maternal depression in the third trimester. Personal post time! Hi, my name is Jenn and I am a pediatric dietitian. I’ve been a dietitian for almost 7 years, and I love connecting with families to help guide them towards making meaningful, sustainable lifestyle changes. My daughter (see below 👧🏻) is literally my bestie and I get to practice what I preach with her. Some of the things that I tell parents everyday that I also practice myself are as follows: 1. I listen to her when she says she is full. I don’t try to push her to “eat one more bite” or to finish her plate (no matter how long it took me to make the meal🥴). She will eat as her body tells her, not according to what I desire. 2. I never label foods as “bad” or “good” to her. There are no foods that are off limits for us. What I do try to teach her is which foods are more nutritious and will help fuel her body & make her feel stronger and smarter. 💪🏼 3. The only beverages we drink and have in the household are water and milk. Everything else is unnecessary! 4. I never talk badly about my body or weight in front of her. Instead, I show her the importance of working out almost daily and I explain how it helps my heart and body feel stronger. 5. I “go with the flow” with her pickiness. Even if she has stages where she refuses to eat certain fruits or veggies, I still will put a portion of both on her plates. I know that she may be going through a stage right now where she is “over” some fruits or veggies, but one day, she may like them again. 😊 #pediatricdietitian #dietitian #pediatrics #healthyfamily #healthytips #nutrition #foodforthought
