If marine transportation is slowly moving towards LNG, it is shame for the Data center industry keep using Diesel. At least… consider dual fuel power generation. Use CNG/LPG when possible, slowly moving away from heavy fuels. Consider this… liquified/compressed gaseous fuels, don’t need polishing, can be delivered by pipe… no storage needed, burn much cleaner…. Minimal load banking needed. Think how many procedures and extra equipment you just eliminated… and simplified your process.

The journey towards Cleaner Energy continues! This time Gasum has agreed to supply Hapag-Lloyd with 20.000 mt of bio-LNG. Liquefied biomethane, bio-LNG, is a fully renewable and environmentally friendly fuel with life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions that are, on average, 90% lower when compared with fossil fuel use. Biogas can be used in all the same applications as natural gas, including as a road and maritime transport fuel and as energy for industry. Energy company Gasum is collaborating with Hapag-Lloyd to supply their container vessels with liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) during a two-year tender period. Earlier this year, Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s leading container shipping companies, won the first tender by the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) for ocean shipping based on waste-based bio-LNG that achieves at least a 90 percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Repsol completes first bioLNG supply for bunkering in Spain Three #bioLNG truckloads delivered from Repsol LNG bunkering terminal in Santander were supplied to Brittany Ferries. Biomethane was produced from waste from the agri-food industry in the first bioLNG facility in Spain in As Somozas (Region of Galicia). Repsol aims to reach a total production capacity of renewable fuels, including #biomethane and renewable #hydrogen, of between 1.5 and 1.7 million tons in 2026 and up to 2.7 million in 2030, and to lead the market for this type of fuel for all transport sectors in the Iberian Peninsula. Additional to this LNG facility in Santander, Repsol also operates another LNG bunkering terminal in the port of Bilbao. #REDIII #FuelEUMaritime #SustainableShipping #Fitfor55 #CircularEconomy

United European Car Carriers (UECC) is reaping the rewards of its pioneering investments in alternative fuels and is on track to exceed its goal of a 45% emissions reduction by 2030 after more than doubling biofuel usage across its fleet last year. The leading European sustainable shortsea carrier has made significant strides in the decarbonization of its fleet of pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) with the addition of five LNG-fueled newbuilds and the increased rollout of biofuels in recent years – and this is now showing commercial payback for clients in the light of new green regulations, according to Energy and Sustainability Manager, Daniel Gent. The company achieved a total tank-to-wake emissions reduction of over 60,000 tonnes across its 14-vessel fleet in 2023, of which it is estimated increased biofuel use accounted for 40,000 tonnes, with the remainder coming from LNG. This was a near-250% increase on the emissions cut of 24,200 tonnes achieved in 2022. #bunkering #bunkermarket #energy #shipping #maritime #shipowners #decarbonization #energytransition #oilandgas #ports #marinefuels #uecc #unitedeuropeancarcarriers #pctc #pctcs #carcarriers #roro #biofuel #biofuelbunkering #csnl #lng #europe https://lnkd.in/dBPyxfgc

Maersk (Maersk) and Equinor have signed an agreement securing supply of green methanol for Maersk’s landmark, new methanol-enabled feeder vessel during its initial months of operation from September 2023 and into the first half of 2024. The agreement ensures green methanol supply for the ship from its entry into operation on a loop from Northern Europe into the Baltic Sea. The biomethanol is produced from biogas from manure. The biogas is upgraded to biomethane and injected into the existing gas grid and the methanol is produced from the biomethane in the grid on a mass-balance basis. The existing European biogas certificate system is used to trace the attributes of the biomethane to the biomethanol and safeguard against double-claims. This way, green methanol can be produced in existing facilities using existing infrastructure and plants enabling a quick route to market. https://lnkd.in/ggvMFYjy

Gasum is collaborating with Equinor on a series of bio-LNG bunkering operations in the Port of Dusavik, Stavanger. Gasum is bunkering ISCC-EU certified mass balanced bio-LNG to Equinor’s chartered platform supply vessel Island Crusader. 🚢🌿 The first bio-LNG delivery was successfully carried out mid-July. Gasum will continue to supply Island Crusader with 2–3 truckloads of bio-LNG approximately every other week. Both Gasum and Equinor are committed to ambitious sustainability goals to enable a cleaner energy future. Equinor’s goal is to become a net-zero emissions energy company by 2050 and the bio-LNG deliveries to Island Crusader is one step on the journey towards achieving this goal. 🌍✅ Read more 👇 #LNG #bioLNG #shipping #cleanertomorrow

Churchill George Yong, Infrastructure Partner at Ara Partners, recently spoke with Michael Schoeck of PE Hub about the firm’s recent majority investment in USD Clean Fuels, LLC (USDCF), a leading developer of logistics infrastructure in North America for the renewable fuels value chain, and the West Colton Rail Terminal, a fully operational biofuels terminal in California. George provides an overview of the macro trends influencing the biofuel value stream, addressing the imbalance identified by Ara's research: 90% of all climate change-focused capital to date is invested in the renewable energy ecosystem, while only 10% is allocated to decarbonizing the industrial market, which is where USD Clean Fuels operates. Ara’s majority investment in USDCF will help fund more projects that hold, containerize and ship railcars of advanced biofuels to and from strategic endpoints adjacent to urban centers in California and other states from which biofuels can be produced, George said.
