Is This What Engineering Has Become? 14 hours at the grind. 6 hours to recharge (barely). 4 hours sucked away by travelling/traffic. When do we live? When are we supposed to see our families, nurture hobbies, or even just breathe? This isn't sustainable. We’re engineers! We bring innovation and progress, but at this rate, we'll all be burnt out before we can make a real impact. Something needs to change. We deserve a work-life balance, not this soul-crushing schedule. . . . . #worklifebalance #engineeringlife #enoughisenough #ITjob

PART 2 BUILD A STRONGER SAFETY NET As technology reduces the number of hours people need to work, we should explore ideas like universal basic income and guaranteed income that give people who don’t have paid work the time and space to find a new purpose. We should also look into a shorter work week so more people experience the dignity that comes with work. Evidence shows that these measures don’t disincentivize work. To the contrary they allow people with more constrained resources to spend more time with their families and communities strengthening social networks and capital; gives them the possibility of seeking training that will allow them to access better paid jobs; and provides a cuahion to seek better employment.

🚀Navigating Work-Life Harmony in the World of Software Engineering . Hey LinkedIn fam! 👋 As passionate software engineers, we thrive on coding challenges and pushing the boundaries of technology. But let's talk about something equally crucial: maintaining a healthy work-life balance. 💼⚖️ In the fast-paced world of software development, finding that sweet spot between crushing deadlines and personal well-being can be a real challenge. Today, I want to share some insights into my journey and the strategies I've adopted to strike a balance. Tip 1: Prioritize Tasks 🎯 - Identify high-impact tasks and prioritize them. It helps streamline your focus and ensures you're tackling what truly matters. Tip 2: Time Blocking ⏰ - Allocate specific time blocks for work, breaks, and personal activities. It's amazing how this simple practice can enhance productivity and prevent burnout. Tip 3: Learn to Say No 🙅♂️ - While enthusiasm is fantastic, it's crucial to know your limits. Politely saying no when needed ensures you maintain control over your workload. Tip 4: Unplug and Recharge 🔌 - Step away from the screen! Taking regular breaks and unplugging during off hours is essential for recharging creativity and maintaining overall well-being. I'd love to hear your thoughts and strategies for achieving work-life harmony in our dynamic field. How do you strike the right balance? Share your insights below and let's foster a supportive community of developers committed to both professional excellence and personal wellness. 🌟 #WorkLifeBalance #SoftwareEngineering #TechLifeBalance

Far too often, I hear and see people sacrificing their nights and weekends, pouring unpaid hours into projects. It's a cycle that breeds false narratives and skewed expectations. While I understand the desire and passion to deliver, it leads to missed personal opportunities which are crucial to our own personal development. Moreover, this culture of overwork not only harms individuals' well-being but also perpetuates a harmful norm within technology. It's time to challenge the notion that working longer hours equates to greater productivity or dedication. Let's prioritise efficiency, work-life balance, and the value of our time. Ultimately, by valuing our own time and setting healthy boundaries, we can foster a more sustainable and fulfilling work environment for everyone involved.

Borrowing from Sameer Arora ‘s post on the 70 hour work week statement, I have been wondering for a few days that it is not just adults but even in the life of a student we do not see a very clear balance of rest and work. And this is exactly where the lines start getting so blur. Those deadlines, submissions, college applications become such a priority that we forget about rejuvenating our system and gaining our energy. (I say this specifically with regards to senior students) But who talks to students about rest? Who tells them rest is not just sleeping? How often do we check in on how do they regain the mental and physical energy lost in the process of work? LET’S TALK. Drop your view points in the comments section.
