August is Child Support Awareness Month! Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions around Child Support in the US. That's why it is so important that we continue to educate ourselves and recognize the critical role that Child Support plays in promoting consistent parental engagement and ensuring the well-being of children and families. This month, spread awareness about federal, state, and local Child Support programs and all that they do! #HSITAG #Support4Families

In line with Prevent Child Abuse America's Theory of Change and our commitment to "Centering Families in Decision-Making," Colorado is leading an inspiring project that puts lived experts at the heart of their work. This initiative focuses on meaningful engagement, with lived experts advising on program implementation, reviewing educational curricula, advocating for policy changes, and driving systems change. Colorado’s work highlights the importance of co-designing strategies and navigating key operational considerations like compensation, contracting, and sharing decision-making power to truly create change. Together, we’re making a difference. Illuminate Colorado #CenteringFamilies #SystemsChange #PreventChildAbuse

This Child Protection Week, we're focusing on a critical aspect of our work at OzChild: ensuring children and young people are active participants in decisions that shape their lives. Too often, children and young people feel left out, asking, “Why wasn’t I consulted?” or “Why didn’t I get a say?” We believe direct involvement and meaningful participation is key to truly empowering young people. At OzChild, we’ve taken concrete steps to change this by dedicating resources to amplify the voices of children and young people. Our Child and Young Person Engagement Advisor plays a pivotal role in educating and equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence to actively participate in decision-making, and giving them opportunities to do so. This is about more than just offering them a seat at the table—it’s about ensuring they feel prepared and empowered to use it. We are already seeing the positive impact of this approach as it reshapes our service delivery. Let’s all continue to champion the voices of children and young people—because every conversation matters in shaping a better future and service system for children, young people and families.

Our Kidsave-Gallup study was featured in the Go Erie Times! Many people qualify to foster, host or adopt a child. If you have a safe place to live, there's a good chance you can help. Regulations differ, but generally, you don't have to be married, wealthy, or own a home. What you do need is the ability and willingness to provide love and care for a child. CN: mentions of child ab*se, CSA As a homeschooled child in Minnesota, Hope M. was extremely isolated. Her parents wouldn’t allow her to make friends, talk to other adults, or go anywhere alone. That isolation made it easy for them to hide how they ab*sed and neglected their children. And it made it impossible for Hope to get help. Hope’s story represents those of countless homeschooled children who waited for help that never arrived. It doesn’t have to be this way. A few common-sense policies would ensure homeschooled children have guaranteed access to mandatory reporters who can spot a problem and step in. Now is the time to get those policies in place. Now is the time to #MakeHomeschoolSafe. Read Hope’s story: https://bit.ly/3ZWD1cF

National Child Protection Week is happening now 1-7th September 2024. The aim of the week is to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future. The theme for this year is “Every conversation matters”. What does this mean? Conversations can be powerful and life-giving when we listen well and give people an opportunity to speak. It can be conversations with children about: • What is important to them • Their worries • Their hopes and dreams It can be conversations about kids with their: • Caregivers • Peers • Teachers, professionals, mentors Jesus said in Luke 18:16 says ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these’” As we speak to people about their ministry to children let’s think about how we can equip people to have conversations that not only keep kids safe, but enable them to feel welcomed into God’s family. Are we listening out for things we can do or say to keep kids safe? What can we do to play our part to support families and communities promote kids safety? https://lnkd.in/gRH_7pr5 #NCPW #childprotection
