Hiring for an editor’s role has been a disappointing experience so far. Most of you know me, follow my posts, have applied for my company's openings in the past, know me as someone who values professionalism and effort... But yaar, when I get such emails, I cannot help but reflect on the approach some candidates take when applying for a role. You are applying for a full-time editor's position and this is how you are sending the mail? - Poorly structured - Filled with grammatical errors - Lacking the professionalism one would expect from someone. Please, samjho ki this is seriously concerning to see such casual attempts for roles that require attention to detail and clear communication. This brings me to a larger issue: if candidates cannot present themselves with professionalism and clarity in their applications, they cannot complain about not getting the roles they aspire to. I am not saying I am offering goldmines or something amazing, but I pay decent, I pay on time, my company operates 100% remotely, there are opportunities to learn and grow! But you need to realize how every opportunity requires effort, and that starts with how you approach your application. I'm hiring. And I'm specifically looking for this guy😄 Or somebody like him. There's an entire team on the stage. But who's the only one who seems to have got 'IT'? If you feel this IS you, we should talk. If you've found yourself doing things like this guy, not worried about what people think, not worried about what the others are doing, just doing whatever it takes to get things done, we should talk. You are very particular about writing for a living. You are exceptionally good at explaining things. But not before you understand them. Your curiosity has got you into trouble. But you have never let that stop you. You constantly find better ways to get things done, and can articulate your contribution, then we should talk. In the long run, you are confident of not just getting others to dance along, without missing a beat, but can get them to do it better! And you do this only after understanding what matters most to them. And you know how to make those 'win-win' connections. I recently applied for a senior technical writer position, exploring opportunities with various companies advertising on LinkedIn. Understanding the prevalence of automated resume scanning in the hiring process, I meticulously tailored my application for the Senior Technical Writer role at Eaton Corporation, investing significant effort to present my best qualifications. However, within FIVE minutes of submission, I received a standardized rejection email, indicating that the company had opted to pursue other candidates, a pattern I've observed with other organizations. This experience raises questions about the value of investing time and effort in detailed applications if companies like Eaton are swiftly dismissing candidates without thorough review. It prompts reflection on whether applicants should simply provide their name and move on. I remain hopeful that companies will continue to make informed decisions in selecting candidates, ensuring a fair and equitable process for all involved.

We need to learn so much from this little chap. Stage fear, Confidence level, determination, awareness, mindset, accuracy, know the audience, icebreakers, leadership, amusement, happiness, blessey…. What else… many more

Are we overly imperative with our posts? Did we go overboard, and should tone down the "telling to", and start more "talking to" when writing... myself guilty as well of course. Yes, yes, yes telling to readers sounds very strong, credible, full of attitude, and divisive (drives engagement). 100% But people connect with my content, and actually reach out, when I "Talk" not "Tell" (well those that do have that talk internally already, do) But since They can't actually say anything when writing a post, I assume a hypothesis about what they want to talk about. A problem. In a specific context. what are the trade-offs. What does this problem look like from their perspective, then "talk it" out from that perspective and my perspective... So, I would say both types have their uses. Being loud. And writing like you're a part of a conversation. No goal here, just Sunday "thinking out loud" post :D
