I wish every team faces hard times! I have often heard and read posts about culture and how “we are one team”, “we are a family” etc. But how do you actually find out if that’s the case for you? Everything is anyways going well during the happy moments. There are team dinners & parties & outings. There are cultural celebrations & fun Fridays & secret Santa. And while this is an amazing thing to have, what it does is that it sometimes could give a fake sense of togetherness. The real strength or toughness or togetherness of a team is tested only during hard times. When you are sick but there are urgent deliveries, when important deadlines are nearing and time is short, when there is a production problem and the team is panicking and the client is continuously calling, what do you do in these situations? How does your team react here? Do you stand for each other and take ownership or play blame games? Does the team help each other unload the pressure or get going because their “9 hours” are completed? Answering these questions is really important. What do you think? What’s the secret to building a strong team? It’s not just about work— it’s about connection. Nothing beats gathering the crew for a good ol’ BBQ at the shop. Great food, plenty of laughs, and time to relax outside the usual grind. Moments like this remind me why team building is so important—it’s not just about getting the job done; it’s about creating a bond that makes us stronger when we’re back at it. Here’s why team-building matters: - 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀: Time together outside of work helps build trust and camaraderie. - 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗲: Celebrating together, whether after a big project or just a regular day, keeps the energy high. - 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The more comfortable we are with each other, the better we communicate—on and off the job. - 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: It’s simple—when the team feels valued, they give their best every day. We’re more than just co-workers here. When we come together like this, we’re a family—ready to serve our customers with a smile and a full belly. Together, we got this!

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺? We all know that great teamwork is essential to reaching our goals - true in every sense. But today, in a conversation with our team lead, we realized that empathy and emotional intelligence are just as important in strengthening our team. Together, we make an impact when: ◾ 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. By paying attention, we can see when someone might need extra support. ◾ 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀. When a teammate needs help, we’re willing to take on different tasks or roles to lighten the load. ◾ 𝗪𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. This willingness to show up for each other makes us resilient and keeps us connected. Isn’t it great to be noticed, heard, and supported in the work environment? Or as Phil Jackson said: “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮.” 🏀

Team events can feel forced and uncomfortable. .... Until you realize they build a stronger team. Shared experiences and inside jokes can create a sense of belonging. They can: 1. Boost morale and make work more fun 2. Strengthen communication and collaboration 3. Help new team members feel welcome and integrated Just because you're not a "party person," doesn't mean your team doesn't crave connection. Sharing: - Casual moments - Team wins (big and small) - Fun activities Can help your team bond in unexpected ways. Once you embrace the power of connection, team events become less of a chore... They become a valuable investment in your company culture. Your team's happiness is priceless.

Trust: The Foundation of Every Successful Team In any high-performing team, trust is the bedrock. It’s the invisible thread that holds everything together. When every team member knows their voice will be heard, their contributions valued, and their efforts supported, something incredible happens: respect flows in every direction—top-down, bottom-up, and peer-to-peer. Mutual respect isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s the fuel for innovation and success. When all layers of a team work in sync, there’s no limit to what can be achieved. But let’s not forget—success is a team sport. Imagine a rowing team where one person paddles the wrong way. (Hint: It doesn’t end well.) We only win if we all win. So, let’s paddle in the same direction, respect each other’s strengths, and laugh along the way. After all, a team without trust is just a group of people who happen to work in the same building—and where’s the fun in that? What does trust mean to your team? Drop your thoughts below—I’d love to hear them!

A team is greater that the sum of its parts… when it works well together. Team building exercises like trust-falls and axe throwing claim to improve team effectiveness through building relationships. Sharing a putt-putt-golf victory with a teammate might help you build relationships in your team but those relationships are based on enjoying the experience of ‘not working’ together. In that world, not-working together is fun, working together is not fun. The market is tough right now. Budgets are tight. We can't afford to waste our shrinking budgets on team building that doesn't work. Understanding who we work with, and why we are motivated to work helps us connect to each other and our work. Try connecting your team through story. Try sharing with your team why your job challenges and engages you… and see what they say. After you’ve shared, see what you get when you ask them the same question. We at Playgrounded can help you share stories in your team. Find out more https://lnkd.in/g8xNrQUP

This is a spicy belief that we (Playgrounded) have held for a while 🌶️. Smart, wise, witty, stylish leaders know they want connection for their teams (who they ❤️) and for them to feel safe enough to collaborate and do great work. So they look at the market to help them and they have few options that create authentic lasting connection that helps team do great work together. We wanna fix that. What if you could have fun AND connect AND relate that all to the day-to-day reality of work? Good news - there is a way. Also good news, we love talking about it. Reach out and have a think with us about how you can super charge your collaboration through authentic connection playgrounded.co 😎

But this should be common sense! Why is my team not doing it?! 😡 ➡️ Common sense doesn't actually exist. We all have different backgrounds, viewpoints, experiences and knowledge. Context matters. And the context you as a founder or manager have is going to be different from that of your team. Luckily you can easily overcome this by making the implicit explicit. For every new process or "way of doing things", figure out: → What are the expectations? What needs to be done? Be specific. → Document, document, document. Explain the what, how and why. To fix existing issues, take note of those things that aren't happening in the way you've hoped, despite them being "common sense". Whether these are about how you communicate and collaborate as a team, how a specific task is done or how you handle feedback and complaints. Once you've identified your problem areas: → Put in place systems, training and documentation to get your team following the right processes. Your team doesn't live inside your brain. They can't read your mind, and nor should they have to. 🧠
