#Windows are tricky things in a #conservation and #listed #building setting. The methods of #historic #glass production being less refined creates its beautiful distortions and faults which aren’t welcome in a modern, new installation. Those imperfections are nonetheless intrinsic to the #historic #significance and are irreplaceable in terms of matching their manufacturing features today. Conservation professionals therefore strongly resist replacement. Meanwhile manufacturers have been excellent at upselling the virtues of double glazing upgrades and extolling their thermal performance. What hasn’t been well publicised is the alternatives to #replacement - #repair, #thermalupgrades and the associated return on investments in #traditional #construction settings. Appropriately #repaired and #draughtproofed with sympathetically considered #secondaryglazing almost matches the #thermal performance of double glazing at a fraction of cost and invasiveness a replacement would require, retaining #historic #fabric and #architectural interest. The kicker? Unveiling Arrakis: A City Reborn in Sand Here, a familiar cityscape undergoes a metamorphosis, its towering structures buried beneath a relentless sea of sand. ⏳ Process 1: A Familiar Canvas: I began with one of my photograph that I took a few days back during the rainy day from my terrace, a bustling city reaching towards the clouds, a symbol of human ambition. Process 2: Erosion & Transformation: Using digital manipulation techniques, I stripped away the concrete and glass, replacing them with the coarse textures of sand dunes. Skyscrapers became eroded remnants, swallowed by the endless expanse. Process 3: A Harsh Reality Revealed: The final image showcases a desolate landscape, the only reminders of the past being the faint outlines of what once was.
