1826 URBAN CORNERS and SHAPES of BUILDINGS -Gautam Shah https://lnkd.in/d-zt2tQ5 Architectural corners formed by the setbacks. Next lot of corners emerge, due to the mismatch of the plot shape and geometry of the structure. Third lot of corners come up by the architectural adventures of unusual building shapes. Fourth types of corners are perceived with the wide and narrow road face of the plot, and the allowable height for the building. Fifth level of corners occur due to the grid iron layout of the roads.

Whilst we offer lighting solutions for interiors, natural light takes some beating. This is particularly the case in old churches which were built long before the invention of electrical lighting. In these buildings the windows were the prime light source and with the addition of stained glass the effects can be stunning. The raking sunlight creates light and shadow with patterns that are continually moving. Modern lighting can somewhat "flatten" the illumination in these spaces if not handled with care and sensitivity. So, the next time you are in a church, take a seat and watch how the light changes continually. This is best achieved in the morning or evening as the sun rises and sets. You will experience different feelings and emotions as the light continually morphs as time passes. https://lnkd.in/eiRyJ5AQ #minimalism #modern #contemporarylighting #design #architecturallighting #architecturaldesign #engineering

What’s the secret to designing a parking structure in challenging environments? The Emery Station West V Garage in Emeryville, CA, demonstrates effective problem-solving. Our five-story post-tension concrete design incorporates a hybrid moment frame and shear wall system. To tackle high water table issues, GPLA has implemented an extended mat foundation that avoids deep piles, keeping costs manageable. Additionally, we’re incorporating a bioretention swale with decorative plants for enhanced aesthetics. The focus remains on maximizing parking capacity while aligning with architectural goals. #StructuralEngineering #Sustainability #DesignBuild #DPR

This window perfectly represents what we love about this property: the clean, modern lines of the black timber-framed window is almost acting like a picture frame. With the Harringworth Viaduct crossing the River Welland between Harringworth, in Northamptonshire, and Seaton, in Rutland, it's a really special backdrop. Our job, when we have the opportunity to focus on such a view, is to realise why our clients buy such properties – and with good reason. A view allows you to always be looking out, away, and not having to look down or around. There's a human, hopeful prospect when you live with a view. 🌄☀ #Architecture #BuildingDesign #ContemporaryArchitecture #InteriorSpaces

In a bustling city nestled between towering skyscrapers and historic landmarks, there stood a forgotten building, weathered by time yet filled with stories waiting to be told. Its grand façade, adorned with intricate carvings and stained glass windows, whispered tales of a bygone era when artisans meticulously crafted each detail by hand. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of aged wood and memories long past. The corridors echoed with the footsteps of architects and visionaries who once roamed its halls, their dreams etched into the very foundation of the building. Each room held secrets, from hidden passages to forgotten blueprints tucked away in dusty drawers. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the city streets, the building seemed to come alive with a newfound energy. Lights flickered to life, illuminating the intricate architecture in a soft glow. From the outside, it appeared as a beacon of creativity, drawing in those who sought inspiration and solace within its walls. Despite the passage of time and the ever-changing landscape of the city, the building remained a steadfast symbol of innovation and imagination. Its story, like the countless architects who had passed through its doors, would continue to inspire generations to come, a testament to the enduring power of architecture to shape the world around us. #Skyscrapers #landmarks #buildings #craft #architects #energy #sustainability #facade #walls #imaginations #landscape #creativity #storytelling

The greatest obstacle to flow in any project is the staircase. Seen not only as a means of circulation or as a driver of efficiency but also as a beautiful architectural form, the staircase can unlock an architectural scheme. Vertical flow through a building can open up light and volume and connect the individual pockets of life contained within any project through a series of poetic views, moments and journeys.
