So your utility services got upgraded, but have you ever wondered how they got there?🛠️
It's all thanks to horizontal directional drilling (HDD)! Our team uses HDD to install utility lines underground, to give your utility services the upgrade it needs. This technique allows us to minimize disruption to the surface, avoiding obstacles like roads, buildings, and waterways.
Here is how it works:
👉🏼 Planning: We map out the safest and most efficient path for the utility lines underground, ensuring minimal impact on the community.
👉🏼 Hydrovac Excavation: Exposing existing infrastructure to ensure its integrity remains intact throughout our work.
👉🏼 Drilling & Pulling: We use specialized equipment to create a pilot hole, navigating it carefully to match the planned path. Then we pull the utility lines through the expanded hole, securing them underground.
👉🏼 Hardware Installation: We install things like vaults, splices, and fuse connections.
👉🏼 Restoration: Once the installation is complete, we cover and restore the surface. Which may include Sod, Concrete and Asphalt Repair.
With horizontal drilling, communities benefit from modern, efficient infrastructure that supports high-speed internet, and other utility services—all while minimizing surface disruption. 💡

🛠️ At Anderson Underground, we use state-of-the-art methods to ensure efficient and safe underground construction. Here’s how we get the job done:
Directional Boring: With machines ranging from 7,000 to 40,000 lbs of pullback power, we handle projects of all sizes, boring distances from 50’ to 1500’ and installing products up to 20” in diameter.
Cable Plowing: Our 335hp crawlers plow service and mainline cables through all terrains, including residential areas, at depths of 1 to 6 feet. We can tackle projects over 100 miles!
Trenching: When ground conditions are tough or the product is too large to plow, our trenching equipment, including backhoes and rock saws, cuts trenches for cable or pipe placement in any soil.
Vacuum Excavation: For smaller projects, we use high-pressure water or air to safely break apart material, minimizing accidental line damage and preventing trench cave-ins.
No matter the challenge, Anderson Underground has the expertise and equipment to deliver top-quality results.

Although there is a standard for the depth that buried utilities should be installed, it is generally not met.
The Standard indicates that the Power Line cable must be installed at road crossings at 4' 00" deep, however in this case it was installed at 2' 08";
and that is where many Cable Breakage Events lie, the Trust factor! When making the excavation to machine transfer assuming that the cable must be buried at 4'
.
It is of paramount importance! Avoid this mistake, which causes material loss and could be human!
Ask for a scan of the area before digging !

Tennessee's rocky terrain can present significant challenges during construction projects. SiteSolutions specializes in mass blasting, providing efficient rock excavation that saves time and reduces costs.
Safety remains our highest priority. Our controlled blasting techniques ensure that your project site is cleared and ready for development faster than traditional mechanical removal, keeping your schedule and budget intact.
Benefits of Choosing Blasting Over Mechanical Removal:
▪ Speeds Up Site Preparation: Clear rock obstacles in a fraction of the time compared to traditional methods.
▪ Cuts Project Costs: Minimize labor and equipment expenses with faster rock removal.
▪ Enhances Underground Access: Create optimal conditions for foundations, utilities, and other below-ground structures.
▪ Improves Construction Efficiency: Gain faster access to site areas, allowing crews to start work sooner.

Traditional trenching for pipe installation can be disruptive and costly. Midwest Mole offers a superior solution: pipe hammering. This trenchless technique utilizes a powerful percussion hammer to drive a steel casing through the soil. The beauty of pipe hammering lies in its ability to navigate short distances and shallow depths while swallowing small rocks and cobbles. This minimizes excavation and environmental impact, making it ideal for projects under roads, railroads, and in unstable soils. Furthermore, pipe hammering provides continuous casing support throughout the process, ensuring the integrity of the new pipeline. For a trenchless solution that prioritizes efficiency and minimal disruption, look no further than Midwest Mole's pipe hammering expertise.
In this project we hammered through a collapsed pipe to rehab a failed culvert.

Got a manhole, lift station, or structure that is past it’s design life or in an extremely corrosive environment? The trenchless industry has got more unique solutions for you!
While there’s many types and techniques to trenchless structure rehabilitation, they all tend to extend the service-life of those structures by at least 50 years and with minimal disruption to the system.
In our industrial world, we’ll also inspect manhole structures during our assessment projects. Depending on the current condition of those structures, and what types of chemicals/temperatures are in the process flows, they’ll be included in our rehabilitation plans.
It’s important, especially in the caustic environments these structures exist in, to catch them before complete failure. That allows for the plant to choose the minimally invasive trenchless option and prevents future major disruption and downtime with full dig/replace!
Just another reason to choose trenchless!

Sewer issues can be a nightmare, but trenchless technology is changing the game. 🛠 Recently, we helped a homeowner plagued by constant backups caused by a deteriorating 73-ft cast iron sewer line. Using Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) technology with UV light, we created a seamless, durable solution without the mess of excavation.
Want to learn more about how this innovative process works? Check out an article Travis wrote last year, diving into the details of this project and the transformative potential of trenchless solutions! https://bit.ly/4gLWGDB#PipeLining#CIPP#TrenchlessTechnology#SewerRepair#SavyAndSons#ConstructionExcellence#InnovationInRestoration
Pipe bursting is an advanced trenchless technique used for rehabilitating and upsizing existing pipe networks without the need for extensive excavation. This method involves the insertion of a new, larger pipe into the existing pipeline. A bursting tool, which is typically conical in shape, is pulled through the old pipe by a winch. As it moves through, the tool fractures the existing pipe, forcing the fragments outward into the surrounding soil. Simultaneously, the new pipe is drawn in behind the bursting head to replace the old one.
Pipe bursting is particularly effective when there's a need to upsize the existing pipe, typically by one step increase in diameter. It is widely used for water, gas, and sewer line upgrades where minimizing surface disruption is critical. The process is cost-effective and environmentally friendly, reducing the need for large-scale trenching and lowering the impact on traffic and landscapes. This method can accommodate a range of pipe materials, from clay to cast iron. With proper planning and execution, pipe bursting offers a durable and long-lasting solution for aging infrastructure.

Utility Pole Questions
I am in a workshop today and it is driving questions in my brain. Looking to get information from my friends (thank you all).
1. Has anyone tried dressing (putting the pole top equipment in place) with the pole on the ground, and then setting the pole? If so what did you figure out?
2. Concrete poles are hard to climb, is anyone looking at methods to make concrete poles climbable? If so, what were your results?
3. If you are using class 5 or smaller (e.g., class 7, etc.) poles, are you seeing any issues with new poles?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Repairing or replacing pipes often leads to major disruptions. 🚧
But there's a smarter solution! 💡
Trenchless technology allows for pipe repairs without the need for extensive digging, minimizing surface disruption. 🕳️
This method is especially valuable in densely populated areas, where space is tight, and construction can cause significant inconvenience.
Several trenchless techniques, such as CIPP, pipe bursting, SIPP, and slip lining, are used for both residential and commercial projects.
Of these, CIPP is the most popular for rehabilitating aging pipelines. 🤩
By 2030, the trenchless pipe rehabilitation market is projected to reach a value of US$ 7.9 billion.
