Aquarevo, a leading water-efficient community in Australia, will enhance its sustainability with a new water recycling facility in Lyndhurst, designed by Hydroflux Pty Ltd. Scheduled for construction in early 2025, the plant will treat 52 million liters of water annually for non-potable uses, reducing reliance on drinking water. This week, Councillor Emma Stokes, our Cabinet Member for the Environment, visited the County’s recycling facility at Stanford Depot to see the cutting-edge RECOFOAM® technology in action. Developed by our trusted contractor, Ringway, RECOFOAM® is transforming footway reconstructions across Worcestershire. Made with up to 97% recycled materials, this innovative binder course reduces carbon emissions by up to 70% compared to traditional asphalt. The impact speaks for itself: 2023: 8,522 tonnes of RECOFOAM® produced 144,874 kg CO₂e saved (a 74% reduction in emissions!) By repurposing waste from footway projects and preventing hazardous materials like coal tar from entering landfills, RECOFOAM® is leading the way in eco-friendly infrastructure. Biden-Harris announces $125 million investment for large-scale water recycling projects The Department of the Interior is dedicating $125 million to five major projects in California and Utah through the Large-Scale Water Recycling Program. These projects will transform unusable water into reliable supplies, creating over 190,000 acre-feet of recycled water annually! 🌱 In tackling our approach to climate resilience, topsoil is one of our most precious resources! Soil erosion and topsoil loss, particularly in Australia, is having a big impact on our native vegetation and agricultural resources. Construction has a big part to play in helping reduce this loss and looking for ways to be #Naturepositive in our BMD Group projects. Partnering with Soil Recycling Co is helping reduce waste and carbon emissions by recycling topsoil on site, rather than the costly and environmentally harmful practice of transporting soil off and back to the site. 🌱 https://lnkd.in/g3gTaXmv

One of Australia’s most remarkable recycling achievements is nearing completion at a Villawood Properties community in suburban Melbourne. Aquarevo, a 460-lot estate built on the former Cranbourne sewerage treatment site at Lyndhurst, is already the country’s most sustainable water/power community with its cutting-edge water technologies and solar-powered homes – and an Urban Development Institute of Australian environmental excellence award-winner too. Now, it’s about to complete a decade-plus journey with new Australian-first technology that will see it re-assume its original role – and much more – with a sophisticated, in-house wastewater treatment plant. “One of the Resource Recovery Group’s projects is to advocate for enhanced packaging design controls and extended producer responsibility. By promoting change in how our goods are packaged, we can increase the amount of packaging that can be taken back by industry and made into new items to contribute to the circular economy   “The alternative to this is no change, and an increasing number of plastics and other materials used in consumer goods not being recycled and sent to landfill.   “It must be our priority to learn from the custodians of the land, the First Nations peoples, so that we can better care for the land, protect the land, and cherish the land.   “Not taking an opportunity to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill is the opposite of caring, protecting, and cherishing.   “Western Australians are heading together towards Net-Zero 2050 and ‘Now More Than Ever’ is there an importance of connecting, respecting and learning from Indigenous cultures on how to care for the land for all our future.”   -The Chair of Resource Recovery Group, Cr.Karen Wheatland is an ally for Reconciliation Week and advocates in her personal and professional life for the theme of this year’s National Reconciliation Week- ‘Now More Than Ever’. Councillor Wheatland stands on two parts of the Whadjuk land that Resource Recovery Group’s Canning Vale Centre operates on. One half is the nature reserve and the other half the recovered materials Bale Shed.   The connection between nature and conserving the resources we have through recycling is a positive reminder about the cultural significance that Indigenous peoples of Australia place on caring for country, the importance of working together, and of connection. Reconciliation is a time for all Australians to learn and be educated about Indigenous culture and their history of 60,000 years of sustainable existence.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭: As Wales continues to shine, the big question is: will the rest of the United Kingdom follow its lead? We are thrilled to have reached a significant milestone in the Maryvale Energy-From-Waste project, which sees more than a dozen Melbourne councils choosing to divert their waste from landfill to this new state-of-the-art facility. The Maryvale plant will help us make better use of non-recyclable resources, and will help Australia accelerate towards net zero by managing Victoria’s waste immediately instead of leaving it for future generations. The site will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to an equivalent of removing 50,000 cars from the road!  It will also help us maximise the recovery of by-products created during the energy-generating process, like recycling, and support the creation of new jobs in the sector. In Europe, water scarcity has been intensifying due to climate change. In the Asturias region of Spain, the local government identified wastewater reuse as a solution to increase access to clean water.
