The EU Work Plan maintains #sustainability as a key priority in sport and, although sometimes it can seem challenging to implement sustainable measures, especially in major events, there are easy steps that can be taken. Draw inspiration from #Paris2024 and what the International Olympic Committee – IOC is doing: → setting a carbon budget; → using existing facilities; → renting & sharing equipment; → privileging renewable energies; → opting for local partnerships and products; → enabling active mobility options; → involving the community.

This week our research group published another important study. This time we evaluated the effects of virtual reality using exergames on children's reaction time. This was the first time such research has been proposed, and we can only hope that our findings could help change the stigma of video games. On World Environment Day in an Olympic year it seems fitting to consider planetary health through the lens of sport. Sport is a ‘language’ spoken in every community around the world. It is a language that translates climate change into a tangible reality through flooded football pitches and ski events without snow. It has equally powerful potential for positive impact through direct action. It is encouraging to see athletes and the Olympic movement stepping up to the challenge.
