What did you expect would happen in your career? How does it differ from the reality of your career today? Today, I’m continuing my mini-series on career conversations to have at work. So far, we have covered: 🏆 Your career goals (a conversation with yourself!) ⚖️ Aligning your goals and values to your organizations (a conversation with your manager) Today, we’re talking about the expectations convo. You can try this conversation on day one of your new job or whenever you embark on a new project. Heck, you can have this conversation every week if it helps create clarity in your work! Here are a few questions to help you approach this career conversation at a macro- and micro-level. Macro Expectations at Work 📚 What do we know about the history of my role? What did other employees manage or achieve optimally in this role? 📆 What will a successful first year look like for someone in this role? ☘️ What are the three main priorities for this role? Micro Expectations at Work 📐 What is the goal of this specific project? 🥊 What impact is my contribution expected to make? 🎉 How will I know I was successful in this meeting/on this phone call/in completing this project? Set your career expectations early if possible. Like many of these career conversations, this talk will open you up to future conversations about expectations, especially when adjusting or modifying them. Check out the link in the first comment to read more about the five most important convos for your career.

This is one of the biggest mistakes job seekers make When I was in corporate America, I used to get messages all the time like: ❌“Do you have any job openings for me?” ❌“Can you keep an eye out for opportunities at your company?” Here’s the hard truth: messages like these rarely get a response. Why? Because you're asking someone to do the work 𝐲𝐨𝐮 should be doing. 👉 Your job search is YOUR responsibility. Don’t cut corners by expecting others to find a job for you. Most people want to help, but you need to make it easier for them. Here’s how you can take control of your job search: 1. Do your research: Check the company’s career page before reaching out. 2. Set up job alerts: Many companies offer this feature to notify you of new openings. 3. Be specific: When you reach out, mention roles you're interested in and how your skills align. ⚡Do the groundwork. Help others help you. ⚡ Take ownership. 📈 Become a specialist and reenergise your career & life! Move up 1, 2....even 3 levels by specialising. 👉 Join me if you are driven, smart, believe in your potential and want to achieve your biggest dreams!
Not making career progress? Not reaching your life goals? 👇 They are connected. Undergo a complete re-invention of yourself and become the specialist inside you. Set your biggest goals in 7 different categories, cost them and be clear on the salary level and career needed to achieve everything. It’s actually easier to specialise than be general because you only need to know one business outcome instead of many. For example, a person who says they can do this, that and many other things can’t really be good at all (or any) of them because they don’t have a specific focus. They also can’t focus their data and messages to win an interview for the same reason. However, if you identify a single business problem and make a valuable solution (i.e. you can fix/achieve/make something the company really needs) then you can focus your messages on your solution to that exact problem and show the company the value you will bring to them. Become more valuable. At the end of my program, you will have a different mindset, higher professional value, a clearer idea of your life and career options and all the necessary data to help you get your best job. Below is a sample of some of the output. DM me now to discuss your personal situation. You are losing opportunity and money by waiting.

Here’s why telling your career story is key to your next move When you’re changing careers, it’s not just about communicating your skills, experience and achievements. It’s about how you share your story. From my experience The people who stand out are the ones who can clearly connect their journey to what’s next. Here’s why its important: It Shows Your Growth and Reveals your Why Your career story isn’t just about what you’ve done, it’s about how you’ve grown and why you do what you do. Employers want to see how your past roles have shaped you, what you can bring to their team and why you want this position. Your next job should provide the next piece of your career and life story. If you’re switching careers, the connection between your past and future and your life and your work might not be obvious. Telling your story well helps show how your skills and life interests make you the obvious candidate for the new role. It Makes You Standout and Memorable Facts alone don’t stick. But a good story does. When you share your career journey in a genuine, relatable way, people remember you, not just your resume. Shape your career story and get yourself ready for the next move! Should I stay or go? How do I decide between job offers? There is a lot of fear creating analysis paralysis in the job market at the moment. One part of the The Job Search Playbook we get tremendous feedback on is our 5 P’s weighted scorecard. It helps you answer the above questions and we have evolved it over time. So here it is. To decide between career moves: Mark each role: Out of 10 for your interest in the PRODUCT. Out of 15 on the PACKAGE. Out of 20 on PURPOSE alignment. Out of 25 on the fit to your PERSONAL life. Out of 30 based on the PERSON you will report to. This will give you a score out of 100 for each career move and help you make the right call. More on that here 👇
