In my latest Substack, I unpack the inner turmoil I feel wanting to open my kids’ eyes to our beautiful, complex world... while wrestling with the climate cost of globetrotting adventures few families can access. I explore the tension between privileged experiences that shape perspectives vs contributing to inequality. How do we raise socially conscious youth without resorting to paralysis or performative guilt? How can parents thoughtfully discuss impacts of inequality with children? I invite readers to reflect on nurturing open-hearted kids who uplift others, without denying them opportunities. STOP THE OPPRESSORS FROM OPPRESSING US AND MAKING US FIGHT EACH OTHER OVER WHAT THEIR WRONGFUL WAYS ARE IMPLEMENTED. WE HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM REALITY TO THE ILLUSION OF REALITY IN A FLASH AND WITH QUITE AN INTEL BEHIND THIS FOR US TO BE CATERED INTO, FROM OUR KIDS AS WE WERE KIDS AND SO ON, WE NEED TO REALITY SMACK EACH OTHER AND STOP THEIR MADNESS ON OUR LIVELYHOOD & HABITAT!! Schools have failed. The replacement of absolute meritocracy and equal opportunity with kindness and equity has been neither kind, nor equal. Producing children who believe they are the centre of the world is a disaster. If you’re friends with your children when they’re a child, you won’t be friends with them when they’re an adult. Don’t ask the kids what they want to eat- put the chicken and broccoli in front of them. Eat it, or don’t. Thought-provoking discussion.

As we observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we are reminded of the pain caused by violence, domination, and the silencing of voices. This day is not only about reflecting on the tragic impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities and acknowledging the deep wounds that persist but also a call to action for each of us. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 means acknowledging the painful history and the stories of loss, but also the incredible resilience and the long road to healing that Indigenous communities have shown. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 means walking that road together, with each of us playing a part, fostering understanding, and creating a future rooted in respect and unity. Let today be a reminder that healing requires effort and that we can contribute to meaningful change through education, empathy, and solidarity. It calls for international collaboration and solidarity to address the social justice challenges that affect millions of lives, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath. Social justice is not only a moral duty, but also a key driver of inclusive growth, innovation, and peace. We can draw inspiration from the rich tradition of Catholic Social Teaching, which guides us to live out our faith in action and apply this in all the work we do for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.
