In the midst of busy schedules and life's pressures, it's easy to forget the simple truths that can make a difference. These "Reminders for Hard Days" offer wisdom that's often shared with children, but they're just as valuable for us as adults. As adults, we sometimes forget these fundamentals in the whirlwind of responsibilities. Emotional resilience isn't just a skill for kids—it's a lifelong practice. Let's give ourselves the same grace we extend to others. Stay kind to yourself, and remember: You're enough.

Having a bad day? Read all 10 points and then ask yourself a simple question. If it's good enough to say this to children, then it's good enough to say to us adults. I think we may have lost this along the way. This list was designed by Whole Hearted School counselling. It is one of their many amazing free resources aimed at children, but really so many adults need to learn these skills as well. Don't say that it's a generation gap, it's a language and skills gap and their emotional language is often far superior to ours as we were never taught it. Stay Awesome & Stay Kind 🙏

This is a excellent representation of anxiety for young people. As parents it’s important to remember that these symptoms, like distraction and anger, can arise from an anxious state. The key is to remain calm (not easy) and loving (a bit easier). One key point for parents is to understand it’s not you being a bad parent but the struggles your child is dealing with. Your work, if you wish to accept it, is to not take anything they say or do personally.
When we think about anxiety in children, we often picture lots of worrying. But anxiety can show up in so many different ways. 💡 WholeHearted School Counseling

Is empathy the most important attribute for pastoral care? It requires curiousity and open questions. “Tell me about the best part of your day” “Did you feel proud about anything today?” “Did anyone do anything kind for you today?” “What was the hardest thing about today?” “What are you looking forward to?” Using these sorts of questions completely changed the way I communicated with students in school and boarding house settings. I felt far more confident that I really knew the people in my care. Help young people learn to reflect, to notice what happens around them and understand their own emotions by asking them open questions as often as possible. … just be careful to avoid the unanswerable “why” questions! What has been the best change you made during your career? #education #wellbeing #pastoralcare #empathy #curiosity Boarding Schools' Association BAISIS COBIS - Council of British International Schools Empathy Week TeacherGoals
