Polar Vortex on its way! Check out these tips for your property(s) to safeguard them... or if the worst happens. Call me / Bencher Restoration immediately if the worst DOES happen. **Bencher Restoration Recommends: Preventing Frozen Pipes** 1. **Keep Warm:** Set thermostats above 55 degrees in cold weather. 2. **Water Flow:** Let the farthest faucet from the main valve drip cold water. Moving water prevents freezing. 3. **Emergency Prep:** Identify and locate shut-off valves. 4. **Insulate:** Protect pipes in unheated areas. 5. **Warm Up Pipes:** Open cupboards and vanities to heat pipes. 6. **Control Water Supply:** Close internal valves, open external spigots to drain. 7. **Expand Safely:** Leave outside valve open for water expansion, avoiding pipe breakage. 8. **Freeze Alert:** Turn off and drain outside spigots before freezing weather. **Bencher Restoration Recommends: Locating Main Water Shut-Off Valve** 1. **Find Valve:** Usually in the basement or a concrete box near the street. 2. **Access Valve:** Use a large screwdriver if outside. 3. **Shut-Off:** Turn off the water with a pipe or crescent wrench. 4. **Visibility:** Mark the valve with fluorescent paint or tape for easy identification in the dark. **Bencher Restoration Recommends: If Pipes Burst** 1. **Immediate Action:** Shut off your main water valve. 2. **Professional Help:** Contact a licensed plumber without delay. #FrozenPipesPrevention #WinterHomeCare #EmergencyPlumbing #PipeInsulation #WaterSupplySafety #HomeMaintenanceTips #PlumbingEmergency #bencherrestoration #colorado #BencherRestorationTips

When checking a commercial roof for leaks, it's important to look beyond just the surface. Here are some examples of where we might inspect to find the source of a leak: Inside Inspection: Start indoors, looking for water stains or dampness on ceilings or walls. Check the Roof: Examine the membrane for tears or wear, but also inspect seams, flashing, and penetrations. Inspect Drains: Make sure gutters and drains are clear to prevent water from pooling. Look at Equipment: Check rooftop equipment like HVAC units and vents for damage. Consider Surroundings: Inspect nearby structures for issues like flashing problems or sealant failure. By taking a thorough approach and considering these factors, you can better identify and address any leaks in a commercial roof. #MonumentRoofingSystems

Spotting Common Leak Points on Your Roof 🏠💧 Some of the most common areas for leaks are around any penetrations through your roof. This includes skylights, vents, plumbing stacks, and any other installations where holes are necessary for electrical or utility purposes. Proper installation is key to preventing leaks, especially where flashing integrates with roofing materials. Here’s a prime example of a skylight leak occurring at the crucial junction where the flashing meets the roof. If you’re planning to install a new feature or if there’s an existing feature you suspect might be compromised, don’t hesitate to reach out. Ensuring your roof is secure and leak-free is our top priority. 📧 info@w4sr.ca 📞 (403) 288-8819 #RoofingExcellence #CalgaryHomes #LeakPrevention

🔨 As roofers, we're not just knowledgeable about materials and installation, but also about the flow of water. Take this photo, for example, where we're in the midst of installing metal flashing on a roof valley and highlighting a potential issue that hasn't been addressed yet. 🧐 What might that be? 💦 A gutter apron! Without one, water might splash over and fall onto the roof below. 🏠 Sure, roofs are designed to handle water, but any spot that gets more than its fair share can cause problems and leaks due to an unintended increase in water flow. 🔮 Need our water wizards to ensure your roof installation has the right flow? Adequate sub-floor ventilation is a key aspect to help protect buildings from timber decay by encouraging air movement across the structure. This vent caught my eye during a recent inspection, as it has been installed upside down! As such there is no a risk that rainwater could enter the building at this location! In construction, as with most things, if you get the small details right the rest will look after itself #buildingsurveyor #buildingsurveying #constructiondetails

There are many requirements to measure strain outdoors, such as the monitoring of structures such as bridges, or durability tests of railway rails. Waterproofing is essential since the test is conducted outdoors, but reducing installation time has a significant positive impact, especially when there are many measurement points, such as when testing a bridge. Depending on the duration of the test, there is an option to use special-purpose strain gages (KFWB, KFWS) that have been made waterproof in advance to significantly reduce the number of on-site work steps.
