Among the other awardees is the 100% silicon anode specialist GDI, which partnered with the leading defense battery contractor Navitas Systems, LLC to enter the competition. “GDI’s silicon anode can increase the energy density of Li-ion batteries by over 30% and triple their charging speed compared to those with graphite-based anodes,” GDI explains. “The anodes can operate in low temperatures and will enable increased safety of cells, as demonstrated in recent 3rd party nail penetration testing.” Rob Anstey Raymond M. It was a privilege and an honor to have been interviewed for this article in National Defense Magazine by Hope Hodge Seck. My perspective was from that of a program manager reviewing the stakeholders’ expected (mandated) deadline versus the reality of engineering, manufacturing, and operationalization of a new #technology. Further, #electrification of ground, air, and maritime systems isn’t simply the introduction of new tech, but the replacement of entire platforms and families of commodities to include the reconfiguration of global logistics and infrastructures. As Elon notes, if “manufacturing the idea is 10,000 times harder than producing the idea”, then operationalizing entirely new modes of transportation for the world’s largest bureaucracy is 10,000 times harder than manufacturing. #dod #ev Parabolic https://lnkd.in/gh_NjfDC

#TrialsThursday Testing armoured vehicles is no mean feat. In order to test them at their limits you need data acquisition which is extremely tough! The #RBSL Trials Team decided there was only one tool for the job - the KRYPTON system from DEWESOFT. The KRYPTON units are IP67, rated to survive 100G of shock and operate from -40*C to +85*C. The rugged nature of the KRYPTON units combined with the compact form factor and single cable EtherCAT connection allows easy fitting within armoured vehicles without hindering the vehicle crew. This new investment in data acquisition greatly improves the vehicle testing #capabilities at RBSL, allowing hundreds of channels of noise, vibration, analogue and temperature readings, as well as centimetre accurate GPS positioning and vehicle dynamics testing. As armoured vehicles modernise and their systems become more interconnected and modular, the ability to record network traffic and Controller Area Network (CAN) data becomes vital. This new equipment gives us the ability to log thousands of channels of data from the vehicle systems in real time. The RBSL Trials Team have also developed the ability to log this data remotely allowing real time data to be logged in the field. This ability allows for monitoring of real usage data from vehicles in the field or on exercise to help ensure the vehicles are fighting fit!
