Remembering 9/11 on Patriot Day: A Personal Reflection on Unity and Resilience Today, on Patriot Day, we mark 23 years since the September 11th attacks. I still vividly remember being in 9th grade when my entire class was suddenly evacuated without explanation. School buses were waiting, and we were sent home. When I arrived, my parents were in front of the TV, watching as billowing clouds of smoke rose from the Twin Towers in New York City. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the magnitude of what was happening, but I knew America was in trouble. We were evacuated because we were near a military base, and with Washington D.C. just an hour away—another target had been hit. In 2018, I was in New York City on September 11th, and I remember walking through Chinatown, where fireworks were set off in honor of the victims. It startled me, but it was a reminder of the profound loss and the resilience of those who survived and those who risked their lives. Now, on September 11th, 2024, our country feels more divided than ever, especially after the recent presidential debates. There’s so much vitriol from both sides of the political aisle. But today, on Patriot Day, it's crucial to remember that unity is more powerful than clinging to extremes. We must continue honoring those who sacrificed on 9/11 and the countless heroes who continue to serve. Living in Nevada, I’ve come to appreciate the independent spirit of Nevadans. We don’t shy away from recognizing how fortunate we are to be in America, despite its flaws. Today, let’s reflect on how, as a country, we can come together again—just as we did after 9/11. Let’s take this day to remember, unite, and work toward a future where unity is our greatest strength. #NeverForget #PatriotDay #September11 #Unity #Resilience #America

We often think about military tents and fabric based shelters as the gold standard. They were only a small portion of what was required to win! Locations in the Pacific like Tinian and other small islands used prefabricated Quonset Huts as a means to survive tropical storms and protect sensitive equipment and resources. Today the ADAMS gives you the best of both worlds. Speed, strength and versatility. https://lnkd.in/guJuNSuF

The business of war is doing very well right now, especially as we have more war and conflict in the world at this time than we did before World War Two. But we can’t afford war, we never could. As we move towards overshooting earth’s planetary boundaries, war will only speed it up, making it impossible to stop runaway systems collapse. War is a risk to all human life AND a risk to ALL other life on earth. As tensions continue to increase, we must fight for peace, and we must fight for our children and grandchildren’s futures. War is not a path we can afford to take. #ClimateEmergency #MilitaryIndustrialComplex #OneBillion #ClimateCourage #UncommonCourage https://lnkd.in/gXvpDFGd

Today I preached on Micah's ancient vision of just peace--not just the absence of violence and fear, but the presence of livelihoods, shelter, food, and security. Swords into ploughshares. I invited celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights-. Rights are the foundation of justice and peace. Weseek not just the absence of war, but the presence of human rights. Today we remember those who died pursuing human rights, who were murdered for following after the things that make for peace. May they be present in our hearts and in the struggle for rights to be made real. In every war across our globe we need not just ceasefire, although this is a most necessary beginning, but we need the progressive realization of human rights. We need the things that make for peace, that sustain peace. In this pursuit, we have work to do everywhere. May we continue to seek what these visions, ancient and modern, strive to inspire. #UDHR75. https://lnkd.in/gQNcSaeA

The Murph Challenge is more than just a grueling workout; it's a testament to the power of mindset, discipline, and the importance of surrounding yourself with supportive people. Named in honor of Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, this challenge involves a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another one-mile run. Completing this requires not only physical strength but a resilient mindset that refuses to quit despite the pain and exhaustion. It teaches the discipline of pushing through tough moments, showing up consistently, and committing to your goals. Moreover, taking on the Murph Challenge often involves a community of like-minded individuals who inspire and support each other, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual growth. When you immerse yourself in such an environment, you not only push your limits but also elevate those around you, creating a cycle of continuous improvement and unwavering support. It's a fantastic way to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, reminding us of the bravery and dedication of our service members. #memorialdayweekend #Murph2024 ✅💪 #Family #Community #Discipline #USA

Honoring Patriot Day Today, we observe Patriot Day, a solemn day of remembrance for the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Established by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush in December 2001, Patriot Day honors the nearly 3,000 victims of the tragic attacks and recognizes the bravery of the first responders and ordinary citizens who risked their lives to save others. On this day, we reflect on the resilience and unity that emerged from such profound loss. We remember the courage and selflessness displayed and reaffirm our commitment to the values of freedom and democracy that define our nation. Call to Action: Moment of Silence: At 8:46 AM, the time the first plane struck the North Tower, observe a moment of silence to honor the victims. Volunteer: Engage in community service to honor the spirit of unity and service. Support First Responders: Express gratitude to local first responders and support organizations that assist them. Educate and Reflect: Share stories and lessons learned from 9/11 with younger generations. Let’s come together to honor and remember, and to continue to build a future rooted in unity and resilience. #PatriotDay #NeverForget #September11 #HonorTheFallen #FirstResponders #Unity #Resilience #ServiceAndSacrifice #AmericanHeroes
