They face not just the scorching sun and the bending backs but also the challenge of accessing essential healthcare. The very individuals who feed us often work without the safety net of adequate health coverage, facing occupational hazards, exposure to harmful chemicals, and the physical toll of their labor-intensive work. It's time we stand in solidarity with those who labor in the fields. Let's advocate for policies that ensure comprehensive health care access for all agricultural workers. Together, we can cultivate a healthier future for those who cultivate our food. Because no one should have to compromise their health to provide ours. #AgriculturalHealth #SupportFarmWorkers #HealthForAll 🌱✊
🍒🌿🌽🌳🌱🍎🍓Proud to support a conference dedicated solely to the health and well-being of America’s migratory and seasonal agricultural workers and their families. Looking forward to this annual National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) event, reconnecting with friends and meeting new ones! #MigrantHealth #AgWorker24

Safe Landing member Todd Smith 🌱🌍👨✈️ joined hundreds of people at an event in Windsor this weekend to promote an upgrade to democracy. The event was highlighting the success of a form of deliberative democracy called a Citizen’s Assembly (CA). CA’s are at the cutting edge of political science and have been used on very divisive topics like the abortion debate in Northern Ireland or same sex marriages. The assembly process is similar to a jury service where expert advice is presented for participants to deliberate on, however not only are the members selected at random but there’s also a sortion process. This sortion process provides an accurate snap shot of a countries’ demographic. This ensures all voices are heard and represented with an equal opportunity to contribute to the outcome. The assemblies have proven to be an antidote to polarisation with both sides of the debate accepting both the outcome and that the process is fair. Given that climate & ecological breakdown can be a bit of a hot potato for politicians who do not want to lose some of their popularity with voters, this process can empower the people to make common sense decisions through the collective wisdom of the assembly. This can then help the politicians follow the recommendations and do what’s best for our shared future, free from vested interests or short term thinking. For more information on Safe Landing’s perspective and our recent ‘Worker Assembly’ in Bristol, please read our blog at https://lnkd.in/eCQHqRBM Do you feel an aviation specific ‘Worker Assembly’ could help empower workers to positively transform our industry, free from the short term thinking of board members and politicians? #aviation #climatecrisis #deliberativedemocracy

Job security is crucial for maintaining the quality services that our communities rely on. Unfortunately, 54% of local government workers have seen a decrease in secure work at their councils. And this isn’t just about jobs—it’s about ensuring that vital services like early childhood education, road maintenance, and community support are delivered effectively. By standing together, we can advocate for secure, well-paid jobs in local government. These jobs are the foundation of strong, resilient communities. Watching a polar bear walk across treacherous ice made me think about the incredible work of local governments. They're like those majestic creatures, facing challenges every day. Just as the polar bear finds its footing in a changing environment, local government must balance community needs, policy changes, and remain steadfast in the face of uncertainty. When things get tough, they need resilience. Like the bear swimming to the next piece of ice, government employees must adapt, find new solutions, and keep moving forward to serve their communities. Grace, persistence, and purpose: These are the qualities that define public service. #LocalGovernment #PublicService #Resilience #Adaptability #CommunityLeadership"

I appreciated the opportunity to share just a few of the lessons from the 2023 Canadian wildfire smoke events. So many people and agencies were involved at the local, state, and federal level to quickly respond to the unprecedented air quality impacts and protect the health of Michiganders. You can learn more about how we're preparing for climate-driven public health hazards at https://lnkd.in/etewKihT.
Today's Public Health Review Morning Edition recognizes the importance of Wildfire Awareness Month with Aaron Ferguson, manager of Michigan Department of Health & Human Services' climate and tracking unit, who highlights the state's focus on air quality and preparedness. DELPH Scholar Cohort 3 Karla Granado discusses a recent blog she cowrote with fellow DELPH Scholars Kenyato (Keon) Lewis and Yoann Sophie Antoine Jean-Felix, MPH, CPH, CHES® CP-FS, on how community health workers advance health equity. 🎧 Listen now, access resources, and subscribe to #PHRME: https://lnkd.in/eRjYab9t. #WildfireAwarenessMonth #AirQuality #Preparedness #CommunityHealthWorkers #HealthEquity #DELPH
