Click to read the newsletter illustrating the state of illegal betting through two situations on opposite sides of the world. In Asia, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) reported that the Philippines continues to have deficiencies in its anti-money laundering system that are partly due to the risks associated with casino junkets, while in Europe, there is an ongoing debate regarding the impact of ‘affordability checks’ on betting customers and how this may drive some to bet with illegal operators. Online betting is a good example of what author Thomas Friedman termed ‘the world is flat’, as what illegal betting operators do in Asia has an impact on the other side of the world. Gambling Commission care to say which operators blatantly lied to you? Why did they lie to you? Was any punishment/sanction given for not being transparent with the commission? Are NDAs still being used? As part of an operators reporting requirements do they need tell you how many NDAs they have customers sign yearly? Do you have an understanding of how deep the problem of hiding evidence from the commission is? Think it’s only fair that you answer some questions considering gambling customers expect your governance to protect them. Think it’s only right that transparency from online operators can only be expected when the gambling commission is also transparent in acknowledging they have no real idea of what operators get up to in order to protect their licence and revenue!
