Most days at work I wonder why there aren’t more women in nuclear. There are so many interesting tasks to work on, and the career opportunities are great. Today however, I was wondering why there aren’t more men in nuclear R&D management, as I participated in a meeting with Studsvik, VATTENFALL NUCLEAR FUEL AB and OKG to discuss R&D. Five women and one man – I think we need to start working on the gender balance to get more men into nuclear R&D management 😉 . One of the topics we discussed was the need for dialogue between ministry and industry on nuclear R&D in Sweden - not only for newbuild, but also to discuss the needs for existing nuclear. In many cases the needs are the same, but sometimes they differ. Our new Swedish nuclear coordinator Carl Berglöf has a clear focus on newbuild - we would also like to have a single point of contact between ministry and industry to discuss R&D in existing nuclear. The industry has a lot of good ideas, but we simply don’t always know how to get them through the noise to reach the ears of the ministry. Last year the ministry arranged a much appreciated hearing on nuclear R&D with a short and intense program.
