Today, June 8th, the world is celebrating International International Day of the #Ocean! 🌊 Did you know the ocean covers over 70% of our #planet and gives us at least 50% of the #oxygen we breathe? It's also a vital source of protein for over a billion people and home to most of #Earth's #biodiversity. But, our oceans are in danger. With 90% of big fish populations gone and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, we are taking more from the ocean than it can give. This year’s theme, “Awaken New Depths,” asks us to help the ocean recover. Here’s how you can help: - Reduce Plastic Use: Use less single-use plastic and choose reusable items to reduce ocean #pollution. - Support sustainable seafood: Pick seafood certified by #sustainability groups to support responsible fishing. - Participate in beach cleanups : Join local or global efforts to clean up beaches and protect marine life. - Spread the word: Share information and support policies that protect the ocean. Every action, big or small, makes a difference! Together, we can bring life back to our oceans and ensure a healthy future for everyone. 🌍 #together_for_a_sustainable_future #InternationalDayOfTheOcean #save_our_occeans

World Ocean Day 🌊 is celebrated every year on June 8th. This day serves as a global reminder of the critical role that oceans play in sustaining life on Earth and the pressing need to protect them. Initiated in 1992 at the Earth Summit 🌍 in Rio de Janeiro, World Ocean Day was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of the oceans and encourage actions to preserve their health and biodiversity. World Ocean Day aligns closely with Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14): Life Below Water. This goal aims to "conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development." How Can You Participate? - Learn about ocean issues and share this knowledge with your community. - Opt for reusable items and support initiatives aimed at reducing plastic pollution. - Engage with organizations and projects dedicated to ocean protection. - Encourage leaders to implement and enforce policies that protect marine environments. #envirogreen #worldoceanday #saveouroceans #protectmarinelife #oceanconservation #cleanseas #sustainableoceans #marinebiodiversity #oceanaction #bluemind #plasticfreeoceans #oceansustainability #oceansarelife #protectcoralreefs #reduceoceanpollution #oceanawareness

Protecting and preserving the oceans is crucial for the well-being of our planet. Here are five ways you can contribute to saving our oceans: 1. Reduce plastic usage: · Where possible use reusable bags, water bottles, and containers to minimise single-use plastic consumption. · Properly dispose of and recycle plastics to prevent them from ending up in the oceans. · Participate in beach clean-ups to remove plastic debris from coastal areas. 2. Sustainable seafood choices: · Choose sustainably sourced seafood to support fisheries that prioritise responsible fishing practices. 3. Conserve water: · Practice water conservation at home to reduce runoff and wastewater entering the oceans. · Be mindful of your water usage, fix leaks promptly, and consider using water-saving appliances. 4. Support marine conservation organisations: · Contribute to or volunteer with organisations dedicated to marine conservation. · Advocate for policies that protect ocean habitats and promote sustainable practices. 5. Raise awareness and educate others: · Share information about the importance of ocean conservation with friends, family, and community members. · Educate yourself about the impact of human activities on the oceans and stay informed about current issues. · Encourage responsible tourism by choosing eco-friendly travel options that minimise negative effects on marine ecosystems. · Engage with community groups and local events. By adopting these practices, you can play a significant role in safeguarding the health and biodiversity of our oceans. Every small effort contributes to the collective goal of preserving these vital ecosystems for future generations. #waworldoceanday #8June
