Gebhard Ottacher’s Post

Stockholm sucks. That´s what I learned from Anders Egelrud today, when he paid a visit to the Climate Lab. Anders is the CEO of Stockholm´s energy provider, Stockholm Exergi and plans to "suck" 800.000 tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere per year starting 2027 by employing a technology called "bio CCS". By collecting and burning residue from Swedish forests, such as fir cones, bark and sawdust, Stockholm Exergi will produce electricity and heat while capturing the CO2 produced in the process and permanently storing it in the seabed. As alternatively the fir cones, bark and sawdust would have decayed naturally and emitted CO2 to the atmosphere, according to plan, from 2027 onwards, Stockholm will become home to Europe’s first industrial-size plant to generate “negative emissions”. We will need these negative emissions and I applaud Stockholm Exergi for making this bold investment decision and pioneering this technology. Thanks Gebbard Ottacher for very intersting presentation of #Climatelab. Impressing to see how academia, society, private and public sector can create a platform toghter for innovation adressing some of our most important topics. We need this kinds of initiative to create, support and drive both innovation and existing technology. The set up and the mix of differnt members makes it possible to have a holistic apporach. A set up hopefully possible to introduce in other cities Fabian Kesicki Peter Schliesselberger #wienenergy #stockholmexergi
